Ok, so I've hit 70, started to do some quests for the much needed cash for epic flight and also to get my hands on some nice blue tanking items. So far everything is good. I still have to finish the 2 runs of Botanica and Mechanar to end the quest for the key to Arcatraz, which also gives a nice belt reward, an upgrade for the last green item I have (except rings and trinks). Here is my armory link, for a quick look:
http://eu.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Nordrassil&n=Mordechai
And, since I'm 70, and I consider myself to be nicely geared, I started thinking about heroic runs. Much to my dismay, I found out that nobody even gives me a chance to prove my skills, they simply reject me with "too low hp". So I asked a guy: "What is the minimum requirement of hp for a tank to do heroics?". The answer came short: "Over 14k hp unbuffed". So I made some quick maths in my head, and I realized that number is not quite obtainable now.
The guys in the guild, my friends, are on holidays and we're short on people for Karazhan. So until they get back, raiding is not an option.
So I checked what possible blue items I can upgrade. And the answer was not of my liking. I could find items to further increase my avoidance, not my hp.
So at last I checked enchants. 18 stam (shield) + 5 stam (chest) + 12 stam (boots) + 12 stam (bracer) = 47 stamina gain. Also, I could get a +25 gain from upgrading my ranged weapon to the Khorium Destroyer, which I will get in a few days, if the damned recipe for the repair bot will drop so I can raise my skill. This will net me an increase of 72 stamina (75 with Vitality), which is still WAY far from the expected 200.
Ok, now I looked at the wall of text and realized that I'll most likely scare people away, but I hope dies last (Improved Last Stand).

i'd run SL normal for the trinket and then do the bot and mech run for the belt after that go do heroics.
just do normal runs, make friends with healers who are about to switch and start parties with them, in my experience dps will join about anything ^^ just bring enough cc for the first times
if you like pvp the S2 shoulders and shield are very nice. it was a struggle for me to get them, but i still use em when i need max EH

There is a nice pre-kara gear list in Yakra's sticky and I'm still using some of the gear listed there in t5 content. Most of my pre-kara gear came from this list and it put me in a good position. Don't underestimate the SSO gear but you'll need to work on your dailies for them. I was gaining about 4k rep a day so it shouldn't take you lo long and the gold is nice to. The first thing I'd look at replacing one of your trinkets with one of the engineering trinkets for +45 stam. Then see if you can get a pair of Felsteel Gloves and some Felsteel Leggings. You should be able to get most of the mats yourself with mining and so all you'll need is a friendly blacksmith. If you gem them with +12 stam you should get +121 stam over your current gear with these 3 changes. You could also look at Nethercleft Leg Armor for an additional 10 stam over the leg armour you have atm.

Thank you, I overlooked the Engineering trinket. That +45 stam would do great.
For the gloves, I was thinking I could find something better, but as I looked now at the comments for the Felsteel Gloves, they seem to be the best pre-raiding gloves.
For the pants, Felsteel don't look like such a good upgrade. I'd be trading some stamina for a net loss of about 3% avoidance, and since I am already over 490 def, further increasing def rating is not such a good idea. I am still thinking about
Timewarden's Leggings
, if they will grant me an upgrade or a downgrade. It'll be an increase of raw hp over a loss of overall avoidance. And since I follow Yakra's theories, good avoidance means being healable. If I have a huge hit point pool but low avoidance, I'm not healable.
Also, the Nethercleft Leg Armor, is quite expensive for the small increase they give over the Clefthide Leg Armor. I have considered that, but since this is my first char on Nordrassil, and I'm not the guy that will buy gold, I really need to stock up some cash for the epic flight training. Quel'Danas is the next place I'm going to be after I finish with SMV quests. The neck and shield are totally awesome.

People that demand a 14k hp tank for heroics are just showing that they want to do it easymode. 14k is a lot more than what you need - heck, the 12k you have now is enough.
However, you do have some improvements to get in the enchants department. 150 hp on chest, 120 armor / 12 dodge / 12 defense on cloak, 12 stamina on bracers and boots, 18 stamina on shield, 240 armor on gloves, as well as a glyph for your helmet and a scryer/aldor enchant for your shoulders. Those enchants alone will make a big difference. Other than that, a new trinket and the crafted gun would be nice, plus the rep items from the shattered sun offensive.

150 hp on chest is on the way, 12 dodge on cloak too, 12 stamina on boots and bracers and 18 stamina on shield. Also, I think 10 stamina on gloves is better that 240 armor, since I'll be buying the Felsteel gloves that already have high armor.
Can I get some hints on glyphs for helms ? I have the glyph for shoulders in the bank already (Aldor).

You can do the easier heroics with that gear just fine. Or you can do any heroic with a competent group that has high dps, cc, and an excellent healer.
People who claim that you need 14k hp for heroics either lack skill or are looking for an ez-mode run. No one seems to comprehend that the reason a tank does heroics is to get badges or upgrade their gear... if they arleady have all of the badge gear, then they won't be doing heroics unless it is to help friends.
Do the SSO quests so you can get the sword, shield, and necklace and that will up your hp and armor by quite a bit.

12k/12k is when i started, and it went fine with competent groups and CC.
i think the people you're talking to are looking for E-Z mode runs for sure. once you start running with the same people (assuming you perform well), you'll find groups.
try starting with the daily, if it's not one of the harder ones - there are usually people looking for a tank for the daily.

Got a little upgraded, had a half-PUG half-guild Kara run. We downed only 4 bosses, because we started quite late. Also, got some free enchants from a guildie who was leveling Ench, and managed to make myself the Engineering trinket. I have to be careful now with the item upgrades to not go below 490 def.
And Yakra, thank you for the tip, I might actually get one. I just need to read a little more about how to get it. Never been in ZG. And also thanks for the effective health calculator. It's a life saver.
