Hi, i'm hoping a site dev for wowhead could answer this question for me.
I created a plugin for vbulletin that helps vbb admins bring the Powered By Wowhead power.js script to their forums
http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=183035It's pretty simple, you simply use My Item and it displays the mouseover link as you would expect.
The problem that i am having is with other language and special characters in the URL.
How the product works.
What i do, is when a user posts an item link with an item name, such as Netherwind Pants, my product will first search a cached database of item names -> item IDs (the prefered method of getting info). If the item is not found, we need to get the item ID from wowhead. What i do next is build a URL to request info from wowhead. an example of the URL with the item above would be
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=Netherwind+Pants&xml , which returns a XML sheet for the item.
Some items in other languages, such as Phönixring der Wiedergeburt, do not work in the method that i am using.
http://de.wowhead.com/?item=Phönixring+der+Wiedergeburt&xml returns the following (in XML)
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<wowhead><error><!]></error>
</wowhead>
This is because wowheads ?item= search does not understand the
öIf i use
http://de.wowhead.com/?item=Phonixring+der+Wiedergeburt&xml (Notice the change
ö from to
o ) , everything works as expected.
The problem that i while some characters (in wowheads lookup) are "replaced", like the ö, many are not.
Is there something that i can do to assure that all of the items are looked up properly without having the forum users always write the english name of an item ?

<3 wowhead !
I don't suppose you guys are going to create a similar site for War are you? I'm not a big fan of the Curse built sites, mainly becuase they do not have sexy XML feeds for items
Check out
this thread for now. :)
