A few badage's away... and I'm totally confused. The Sunguard has more Defense. The Legplates has slightly more dodge and spell damage.
I don't want to make a decision I will regret later. Help me out, please.
Thank you.

Short and sweet. Thanks.

Unless you're really lacking in defense, Aldor is better imo

Ooh 18 defense!

the latter were meant for paladins, b/c the spell dmg helps with your tanking(obviously), while the other one is meant for warriors, but either way i've never seen a paladin have troubles tanking so i'd take the first as it offers more avoidance, and chance to hit

I agree. I didnt feel the need to explain. All tanks know that staying alive is king vs damage. What good are you if you are dead? None. Also there is only a 5 dodge difference when socketed and the +18 more defense makes up for a bit of it not to mention it increases everything else defense wise and not to mention the expertise reduces your chance to be doged or parried and not to mention ther is a blue socket in the Sunguards so there is a more stam buff for you there (pauses to take a breath). +37spell damage? I hardely think that amount is going to affect your aggro enough to make you a bad tank.
All in all. Just pick the cooler looking ones. lol jk

Your argument divides into 3 components.
Part 1 is the socketing and the final bonuses, most of us will agree, with something that nice, you're going to socket 15 stamina and ignore the bonuses, you can do it otherwise, but in terms of survival, it makes more sense this way. Overall, the answer is no, there is not going to be any difference in stats due to socketing. tomas has already pointed this out in this addition stated above.
Part 2, yes, and yes, Sunguard adds more to your survivability, however, you've worded it wrong and vaguely. To explain it properly, 18 defense will add mroe pure avoidance and add to uncrushability zone than 8 dodge rating will. Also, expertise will reduce the chance your attacks will be dodged or parried, however, as tomas has alreay pointed out, our only parriable attack is auto-attack, hence this point can be overlooked.
Part 3: about spell damage not effecting your overall threat. You could not be more wrong. The spell damage in the Aldor will add ~18 TPS, and in tanking, where every little bit counts, that's very crucial. There are many paladins in T6 who gem for spell damage/stamina instead of agility/dodge/stamina, or 6 spell damage. Overall, as I've stated in a previous thread against Zoomie, threat cannot be compared with survival, they are both crucial aspects of tanking that have nothing to do with each other than itemization points.
As tomas has already pointed out, it's basically 18 defense vs 8 dodge and 37 spell damage, the avoidance provided by expertise is more meant to be a warrior threat generation tool as spell damage is meant for the paladins.

I see. Agreed. Also I did not mean spell damage does not effect your threat at all. I simply meant its not going to add that much threat but since every little bit counts I see your point there as well. It is a close call though. It comes down to choosing surviabilty or choosing threat and since both are crucial, its a hard choice.

I've been reviewing those legs as well for my paladin. I have chosen the Aldor for all the reasons already listed.

brownjohn is right, other stats will increase TPS better than expertise. what kalemik has failed to mention in his post is that even though spell damage is removed, it's going o be replaced with something else.
