I am a devoted raider. Can't get in 25mans quote often, but I like it a great deal, both because of the unique experience, and the Lore behind those places. Or at least that's how I used to be...
Last week in Karazhan, and the week before, I just felt like I am tired of this place, having done it 3-4 times every month, for 4-5 months now. Because it's all the same every time, and even though the first few were cool, because I got to see some nice places in a very Lore-dense location, it grew casual after that. And I had a random thought about instance popularization.
To let players have the option to turn "special tooltips" on and off. Special tooltips will be similar to the normal tooltips you get when you start your character, but they will only appear in selected instances, if you want them to. I am thinking of either the standard ! button we all are familiar with, or something like the KoT introduction - a hidden NPC whispering to you every now and then in an instance, telling you thins and that, and primarily - brief background information about various bosses and sub-zones in the instance (e.g. the terrace in MgT where you can see the Sunwell would have some short hint that you are actually looking at the "
buildings surrounding the Sunwell - the source of all high elven magic, destroyed by Arthas, and being reincarnated by Kael'thas's magicians, to summon the deadly Burning Legion commander Kil'jaeden The Deceiver
").
I think it would be something every Lore-geek like me would enjoy, and it would also promote in-depth interest in the game, especially in newer player. Can't make somebody that cares only about stabbing random people in BGs care about the backstory - some people just don't like that aspect of the game.
I am being a little distracted and tired, so let me know if I haven't conveyed my idea quite clearly, and it needs more explanation.
