Take a look at Yakra's theories of tanking (sticky near the top of the page). That should give you the advice you are looking for.

Thunderclap every CD. When first kill target is at 30% or so, switch to third kill, SS then Dev, switch to 2nd kill and tank away.

Aside from boss macros (which puts a Shield Block in front of Shield Slam, Revenge, and Devastate), the only macro I use is Mouseover Devastate. On a normal pull I gun-pull skull, thunderclap when they all get to me, devastate (or shield slam depending on rage) skull, mouseover devastate the other targets, and then go back to skull. Remember not to "overtank" your target. If you are 3-4k ahead on threat and the first target is at 30%, stop tanking it and start doing more devastates/SS on secondary targets. DPS should kill skull before they pull off you.
At my gear level (Full badge gear, best crafted, some T5 / ZA) I prefer not to have any CC when I run heroics. I have enough armor (18.8k) and health (16.6k unbuffed) that it's not difficult to heal me through 3-4 mobs beating on me, and this way I know I'm in full control and don't have to depend on a CCer to do his job.
To the OP, you say you have trouble holding 3 mobs. The question is whether DPS is pulling skull off of you or the healer is pulling 2 and 3 off of you. I guess the third option would be DPS pulling 2 or 3 off you, but then that's their fault. Quite often I see rookie tanks all but ignoring the secondary targets, perhaps thinking that just a TC will keep the target on them. TC will keep secondary mobs on you for a couple heals, but you really do need to Tab-Devastate or Mouseover-Devastate those secondary targets in order to ensure they are solidly on you.

Simply tab-target to each creature to effectively hold them. This works better than relying purely on Thunder Clap since not all healers have threat reducing talents (and I hate them oh, so very much).
Devastate, Devastate (or Sunder Armor if non-Protection) -> Tab -> Devastate (or Sunder Armor if non-Protection) -> Tab -> Devastate (or Sunder Armor if non-Protection).
After using an ability on each creature, go back to the main target & Shield Slam it to start DPS as quickly as possible.
-----
Just to clarify, when we say "tab" or "tab-target," bind a key (Tab by default) to Next Nearest Enemy in the Options & use that to target creatures. Alternatively, and I often use this method, turn on Enemy Name Plates (visible health bars above each creatures' head) in Options (bind a key to this). You may click each "plate" or bar to select that target.
-----
Here is a "mouseover" macro which places the Sunder Armor debuff (or replace with Devastate if you prefer) on a target which you currently hover your mouse icon over. Good for not de-selecting a main target, etc. I use this (although rarely) against targets which are crowd controlled (for example, a hunter's trapped target, which usually goes for the hunter).

What I'm about to tell you works for me.
If you're tanking 2 mobs, you should just tab-sunder (or revenge if it's up, or some other aggro-gaining ability) maybe throwing in cleaves if you got excess rage. But that's not your problem.
3-4 mobs should be fairly easy on a warrior, as 4 mobs is our "sweet spot." The sweet spot is the amount of targets a tank class can hold without having to think about it: druids 3, warriors 4, paladins ∞. For a warrior, just auto-attack the focus target (mark it) and hit TC every cooldown, while in between putting up sunders/revenges on the focus target. When the focus target gets low, turn to the next mob and focus it instead.
5+ mobs is where it gets tough. Remember that taunt forces the target on you for a second, and it puts you at the top of the threat list. Mocking blow (requires a stance-dance which is a bit more advanced) can be used if taunt is on CD and you need multiple mobs taunted but dont have the option of CS. At this point, demo shout is nice to make them stick to you for a second, but jumping around and thunderclaping (get the mobs to shuffle a little so TC hits different targets) and tab-sunder/cleave is your friend. Do NOT switch to zerk stance and whirlwind. I've seen many a tank die by doing that.
A few tips:
Face your group. Meleers will deal more damage to the mob that way, and you can more easily tell when a mob is facing or running away from you. If you see a mob run to someone else, you can quickly run over and taunt it back.
Keep your cool. Multiple mobs require you to focus on the task at hand. If you freak out you'll miss spells and forget about important things (like maybe keeping the focus target).
Find a marking system that works for you. Marks are incredibly nice, especially when people know what they mean. My system is fairly simple, and usually doesn't require explanation. I place a skull on the focus target. When it gets low, I place X on the next target. When skull is dead and X is low, I place a skull on the third target. And so on so forth. I only use 2 marks (which I have hotkeyed) and I can place them as I switch to build extra threat on the mob that's about to be focused. You of course can use other marks for whatever you need (e.g. CC, off-tank, etc, but this worked for me.

Excellent advice, especially about paying attention & using raid target icons properly (marking). I also use the Skull & "X" alternatively for those who are not paying attention (to creatures with low health).

Mouseover Devastate macro is your friend.
Also, if your dps won't follow the kill order that you specify, let them tank the mob that they pulled aggro on. They will learn quickly, especially if they are wearing cloth. If they don't realize that they are doing something wrong, then they shouldn't be doing heroics. If your healer is pulling aggro, then either your gear is a little low and you require a lot more healing to keep up, or your healer has no threat-reducing abilities. Doing heroics with a shaman healer and no cc as a warrior is challenging.

It means either the healer is generating too much threat because you require extra healing, or you are not generating enough threat on adds to cover healer aggro. In general, it boils down to the tank.
In general:
If the DPS pulls aggro off you, it's likely their fault.
If the healer pulls aggro off you, it's likely your fault.

the thing that annoys me is when people say tanking with a warrior takes no skill.....and when i say its alot harder than they think they still say its bs....or when im trying to hold 3+ mobs and on breaks off and kills the healer we get yelled at and get asked why the fck cant you hold aggro? thne all you see is
----leaves party
----leaves party
the thing that makes me kinda mad the most is when im partied with all ranged dps and were fighting casters and they scream at me for not being able to hold all 3 of them or whatever
some people just dont see how tough it is to hold threat when your partied with casters and ranged dps who get 10x a tanks dps

Wow way to revive a 9 month old thread, and your first post also. The suggestions are outdated with WotLK content and abilities now.
