Correct. There are 6 "Runes" in total, 2 of each kind. Some powers/abilities require you to use a Rune of a certain type. Once used it will take 10 seconds for each Rune used to be regenerated. While "Runic Power" is like a Warriors Rage. It is generated in combat and by powers/abilities when used. Some things require Runic Power to use. And once used Runic Power must be generated by spells/abilities again.

Early on in the Alpha and Beta information, I didn't read anything about Death Knights. Once I got my beta key I started a deathknight and just went for it. The rune system was pretty easy to understand.
Up by your name and health bar there are 6 circles (2 blood, 2 frost, 2 unholy). For example, Blood Strike (
http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?spell=45902
) uses 1 Blood rune. So you drag Blood Strike down to your action bar. When you target a mob and press Blood Strike, you do the Blood Strike move and one of your two blood runes goes into a 10 second cool down. You still have one more blood rune active, so you could press Blood Strike again and perform the move again. Now you'd have like 8 seconds of cooldown left on your first blood rune and 10 seconds of cooldown left on your second blood rune. You can no longer do any move that uses a blood rune until those cooldowns refresh. Any move that requires a blood rune would be grey on your action bar until the required rune(s) become available.
There are DK spells that require 1 blood, 1 frost, 1 unholy, or even combinations of runes, like Death Strike
http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?spell=49924
which requires 1 Unholy and 1 Frost.
You have another bar called Runic Power, which you gain from using your different spells that require the Blood, Frost, and Unholy runes. Runic Power is like warrior rage. Some spells like Death Coil
http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?spell=49895
use Runic Power instead of your normal runes.
It's really quite easy to pick up. It took me about 3 hours to complete the DK starting quest line the first time I did it, and by the end I was pretty comfortable with the abilities and power system.

it's really easy once you understand it a bit more, the rune power which is made like rage from a warrior by using rune abilities but can be spent like mana, and the runes which are like rogues energy because of the refresh rate only they do different things for each rune. Anyway it's really fun, and makes you feel overpowered (especially if your Unholy spec)

There's also a talent called Death Rune Mastery in the Blood tree. It gives the Deathknight a 33/66/99% chance to convert his frost and unholy runes into death runes when he uses certain abilities (Death Strike or Obliterate) - these are like wildcard runes. Many of a DKs abilities require 2 Frost runes or 2 unholy runes to be active to use. With death runes, you can trump the limitations.

I have a couple of level 58 DK's in the beta (tried Belf and Nelf)
Everyone gets 2 frost runes, 2 unholy runes, and 2 blood runes.
Each ability that builds runic power (think rogue abilities that add combo points) has a rune cost.
The first 3 abilities you get are Icy Touch (costs 1 frost rune), Plague Strike (costs 1 unholy rune), and Blood Strike (costs 1 blood rune). You also start getting abilities that take 2 runes (like 1 frost and 1 unholy)
Each rune has about a 10 second cooldown. Each time you use an ability, it adds X runic power (the amount differs as there are talents that make certain abilities add more than the usual runic power).
On top of these, you have Skills that use runic power. Think rogue finishers that don't use all the combo points, or warrior abilities.
I start a fight with Icy Touch, Then Plague Strike, I'm now down to 1 frost, 1 unholy and 2 blood runes. I fire off a Pestilence (uses 1 blood rune), and a Blood Strike. I'm down to 1 frost, 1 unholy and 0 blood runes. All abilities that need a blood rune are grayed out. However, after doing that I've built up about 40 runic power, I can use my Death Coil if I want at the cost of runic power, while waiting for my other runes to reactivate.
In my opinion, I don't really monitor in my head which runes are coming up (there's floating combat text that tells you which ones just reactivated, or you can look up by your portrait, each rune clocks around like skills with cooldowns), I just look at my hotbar to see what abilities I have available to me.
Skills that I really like that use 2 different rune types I DO keep track of. My favorite skills use 1 frost and 1 unholy, so I make sure that If I have 1/0 available, I won't use the frost rune just yet so the unholy becomes available. I'll get the hang of it better as I play more.
