Lovely event. So far is better than the one when BC was launched...

Crying about being cleansed is equivalent to crying about the event happening.

So, really, can you that are seriously complaining about this stop being so immature? Yeah, yeah, they're ruining your fun? Well, ruin theirs! Cleanse them or lure them to argent healers. (The zombies explode if hit three times by the healers)Hate to break this to you...but there's just as much, if not more, "immaturity" and whining coming from the pro-zombie camp. Especially in response to unwanted cleanses.
Crying about being cleansed is equivalent to crying about the event happening.Yes. But contrary to claims, I've personally seen a hell of a lot of the former and
very little
of the latter.

Thank you. But I've personally seen more of the former than the latter.
I've seen a pretty equal exchange, depending on where I'm at.
I was called all manner of downright rude (and some ToS breaking) names in Goldshire for cleansing (I actually didn't cleanse, but being a paladin, I was blamed anyhow), and there was nothing but whining about not being able to avoid becoming a zombie.
In SW, where there were lots of paladins cleansing, it was nothing but whining about how they were 'ruining' the fun of the zombies by stopping them from invading.

Glad I read this thread, as I'd given up on playing WoW (after 5 days of downloading the huge trial file!).
It seemed incredibly pointless when my Level 1 Orc just kept getting killed. My first (and only) 20 minutes of the game consisted of my beginning to figure out the controls and being killed 6 times by this weird white figure that moved like lightning and was -always- there. This was in the Valley of Trials. I'm assuming this is the "ganking" mentioned? (yes, serious newbie here..!)
So... having read the debate, I'm glad to see it's only lasting three weeks and that I only downloaded the free trial. Sure, I lose the 10 days (as not much point playing to repeatedly die, I don't have any chance to fight back really), but way better than to lose half my paid subscription!
I like the idea, don't get me wrong, and if I were powerful enough to actually -play-, I'd be having a ball, cos it does sound like fun. But I could wish that the very starter areas, where people are Level 1 and 2 and still only getting the hang of how to hit things were zombie free. I mean...yesterdaydude, you were Level 70, yes, I bow to your levelly-supremacy, but you didn't have to keep hanging around my corpse to rekill me. Not exactly sporting.
And yes, I know that "in a real zombie raid, they wouldn't be nice", but a) it isn't, there is actually players behind it, they could show a bit of common courtesy to newbs and b) nor would "real" zombies be waiting for me to reclaim my corpse, they'd just eat it.. :D
Anyway, my point is, It's not exactly welcoming to insist on dicing up the newbies and really, I don't even see how it can be particularly fun. Sure, there's no challenge in it at all! I quit the American Nordrassil (smart here, downloaded the wrong version, sigh! :D), so here's hoping the European Nordrassil will be a little less slaughtery! :)
Although someday I will have a powerful enough Alliance character on the American Nordrassil and I'll hunt that particular chap down...! Weell, I can dream, at least! :D

Yeah, not saying there isn't. Have you noticed the people who complain about the event get flamed out the ass while the people who complain about getting cleansed get defended?
Not saying anyone is in the right for their annoying little whining but just stating what i've seen.

, if you need help learning how to play you can always bug me in-game or through PM. I'm on Shadowsong PVE, America. Name is Jrgsubzero. (Horde)

A new aspect of the plague has shown up today: Plagued Residents. I've found packs of them roaming both Tirisfal Glades and Teldrassil, and they seem to be different from just normal NPCs turned into zombies, which become "Plagued Zombies" when they turn.

Oh man, I am LOVING this event. Its a blast, but, as a word of caution, do not try to hang out buy a Faction Boss and infect them with this "Zombie" Debuff. They will KILL you! Simple as that. I infected Zul'Jin, the Troll Hunter boss by Thrall and he turned non-elite but Thrall 1 shotted me. :-( Hit me for 15k and that wasn't a crit. Oh, well. Off to Raid XR just like the Alliance do. BRAINNNSSSS! LMAO

It's choice, really. That's what I still maintain it comes down to. This argument is a little reminiscent of the arguments you sometimes hear with twinks in PVP battlegrounds. One side saying "I can twink, that's how I want to play", and the other side saying "It ruins things for other players". The difference in this case, though, is that if you want to, you can just avoid battlegrounds altogether. You have that choice.
The way this is being handled is stripping people of that option. And it's not coming from Blizzard. It's coming from other players, because the system that Blizzard set up allows that. It's like I said, no one should be able to just flag you for PVP, world-event or not.
I like the idea that there are plagued residents attacking Argent Healers. That's neat. I even like the idea that you can get infected. I don't care for the fact that you can effectively stop other people from playing the game. An above poster mentioned that if he hadn't read the forums, he wouldn't know what was going on, and probably would have stopped playing. You have to wonder how many people dont know about the forums, and just decided this wasn't their game, and stopped. And before you just write them off, that's literally money going out of Blizzard's pockets.
This is a good idea, just suffering from horrible execution.
And saying "content may change during online play"? Now, really, let's be reasonable. That is clearly meant to address the fact that people's actions and words may change things from the "Rated T for Teen" thing. I'm sure you wouldn't be so quick to quote that if this "content change" caused your character to start dancing uncontrollably every time you clicked attack.
It's a valid point. The restaurant analogy fit, too.
"I think I'd like to play on a PVE server, because I'd like to be able to quest and level without having to worry about being attacked by the other faction."
"What. The. Hell?"
I also think a distinction needs to be made about "whining" and "disagreeing/questioning". It might stop people from just snapping at other people.
Whining
Pro-zombie: Those stupid healers are ruining my fun by cleansing my disease/killing me as a zombie!
Anti-zombie: Those stuipd zombies are ruining my fun by infecting other players and turning me into a zombie!
In this situation, both parties have agreed to accept and utilize the system, but are just butting heads because of certain incidents.
Point of discussion
Pro-zombie: This is a one time event, and we should be able to take full advantage of it. I agree with this gameplay mechanic.
Anti-zombie: I cannot level/quest/play because other players are targeting me despite me not flagging myself for PVP or being on a PVP server, or by killing quest NPCs. This gameplay mechanic needs to be addressed.
Case in point? I had a paladin that took one of the portals from Shattrath to Stormwind, and was instantly killed by zombies that were just camping there. So, a few other classes went up there and slaughtered them.
I was not whining about the
incident
of being attacked. I had a problem with the
system
that allowed it.
I just hate to see valid points on both sides dismissed because one side just claims "you're whining" without taking the time to at least examine the other point of view.

Yeah, not saying there isn't. Have you noticed the people who complain about the event get flamed out the ass while the people who complain about getting cleansed get defended?Sure have...was planning to get around to mentioning that eventually.
I was called all manner of downright rude (and some ToS breaking) names in Goldshire for cleansing (I actually didn't cleanse, but being a paladin, I was blamed anyhow), and there was nothing but whining about not being able to avoid becoming a zombie. On my server, all of the complaints that I've heard about the event have been more in Supremacy's "point of discussion" category. But they've been uniformly greeted with "QQ MOAR!1!"
In SW, where there were lots of paladins cleansing, it was nothing but whining about how they were 'ruining' the fun of the zombies by stopping them from invading.Yeah, same on mine.
Everywhere
. No one got really vulgar about it, tho...which, considering it's An

mar, kind of surprises me.

Okay, so I've read 12 pages of forum blather-- some intelligent, some drivel, some purely entertaining. I will probably read more, but I'm obliged to pipe up and put in my 2 copper.
The way I see the Scourge Invasion Event:
It's a unique world event.
It's entertaining and an opportunity to see different interactions between Alliance and Horde for a change.
People complaining on either side should relax, and realize that this is coinciding with the Halloween holiday events. What is a holiday? A break from the traditional grind (no pun intended).
If you're a zombie fanatic, you... will... be... hunted. You can't expect to take over the world with no resistance offered, can you? Hunters potshotting you down at every opportunity? Tough. Get infected, find new putrid rotting slavering friends and try again. Can't deal with a 70 mage in Stormwind fireballing your undead ass to death as soon as you port in? Log out, head to BlockBuster and pick up "Evil Dead" 1, 2 and "Army of Darkness." There, your zombie cravings may be fulfilled without any pesky paladins exorcising your misshapen self into oblivion.
If you're an anti-zombie light-swinging fleshbag counted among the living, to a zombie... you... are... food. Fight the good fight, give up your questing or deal with the inconvenience. If you can't, log out, make yourself a sandwich and contemplate the divinity of Uther.
What you should
NOT
do is log onto one of your opposite faction toons and start harassing your slayer only to log out again before a response can be made. It's incredibly childish and frankly, quite stupid.
The living and the undead are not going to peacefully coexist. Do not expect the living to let you shamble around spreading disease. It's against the natural order. Nor should anyone expect the undead to... leave that guy alone because he happens to hold all your extra stuff in a vault.
Life happens.
Death happens.
And for now, Undeath happens.
Deal with it.
And by that, I mean EVERYONE.

Make it un-cureable except by the Argent healers. I'm tired of the pallies curing the battlemasters. Also, pallies, if you're not on a RP server...
QUIT KILLING THE ZOMBIES!
What does being on an RP server have to do with this?
By that logic, people shouldn't -become- zombies unless they're on an RP server. Zombies, kill on. Pallies, cleanse on. Struggle! Fight! Destroy! May the best man/thing/pile of bones win!

Anyone tried what happens when you enter Strat while being a zombie? Are they friendly? :P

All of the undead are friendly, even the bosses. However there is no hidden dialog or easter eggs that I could find.

I am not Anti-Scourge Invasion Event
I find the whole concept and initial implementation of it fun. I find the zombie invasions fun. I find killing them, fun. I find infecting crossroads fun. (when is crossroads NOT leveled?). I love the idea of the infection spreading. I love the lore involved. I love the event as a whole. I've been a part of some big zombie raids here and there.
However, I am ANTI-GRIEFER.
Okay, if you're not going to read what I have to say and even attempt to understand it, don't bother replying. Because I've been posting here repeatedly and then some hot headed brat comes along and starts flinging "QQ" and "crying" around and making comments about what I'm saying that completely contradict what I've actually said.
I have one lower level alt I've played since the invasion started and I haven't barely touched it except for a few instance runs with guildies. I have not been directly affected by the plague as far as getting my own quests done (save for the occasional infected battlemaster or daily quest giver which is annoying at worst).
This is the cycle that has been happening on MY SERVER. Level 12s come into Westfall. A pack of level 70 zombies attack them. Kill them. Turn them into zombies. Seconds later. Level 40+ militia guards kill them in zombie form. The corpse walk back. The zombies immediately attack them again. They are turned into a zombie. A guard attacks them. Kills them. Repeat this process for two hours with various low level players. When they are not getting killed by level 70 players they are getting killed by their zombified quest givers. When they aren't getting killed by their quest givers there are no quest givers.
By NO stretch of the imagination is this in any way fun or exciting for the level 10-20s who are having their quest givers and themselves camped. The only way to avoid the plague is to go sit around in stormwind for what... two weeks or whenever this ends or wait until 4am when nobody is on.
This isn't happening just in westfall. This is happening in EVERY 1-20 area on my server ALL evening long.
There is no way to get anything done. You stand there waiting for quest givers to respawn or your corpse walking or you're not playing. Not for five minutes. Not for 30 minutes. For HOURS. Please, read that,
HOURS
in EVERY lowbie area on my server.
When level 70s camp players for HOURS that is GRIEFING by every definition. When you keep quest givers dead 90% of the time between 6pm and 10pm that is GRIEFING.
That is NOT fun. That is NOT whining. That is NOT crying. That is fact.
The only break Westfall managed to get was when my guild assembled a raid group to defend Westfall and Elwynn. We abolished and cleansed every disease in sight for two and a half hours straight.
This is a PvE realm. People come to PvE realms to avoid this kind of griefing. And there is absolutely no way to avoid except to turn your game off.
Its fun? Come on. Tell me how level 15s sitting in front of an argent healer in stormwind all evening is fun or playing the game? That's not fun. Its not exciting. Its ridiculous.
This is why you hear people complaining about spending 15 bucks a month for nothing. They can't do anything. You can't quest unless its when kids are at school or people are asleep. Which rules out many players altogether.
I'm a Paladin. I'm going to kill you.
I don't particularly care if I'm not on an RP server or not. Every skill my paladin has is in reference to holiness and The Light. My character is designed to kill undead. The entire paladin class is designed around lore.
If you're a zombie you're a hostile enemy. You are a valid target. You will be killed. Just as I would kill ANY horde player killing NPCs in Westfall I'm going to kill you.
If you haven't noticed, when you're Scourge you're your own faction with your own language. When you turn into a zombie it is akin to you switching to a Horde alt (and vice versa from the Horde perspective). I don't care if you're "leet alliance trade troll #32". I will kill you. I'm a paladin. My class was designed to kill you. You're a valid and legitimate hostile enemy.
Even the Horde are pitching in
Its gotten so bad on my server that I've seen players bring in Horde characters to defend Sentinel Hill. Alliance and Horde players were fighting side by side killing the zombies.
I AM NOT ASKING FOR ANYONE TO STOP PLAYING AS A ZOMBIE. I'm not even asking people to stop killing lowbies. I AM NOT ASKING FOR YOU TO STOP INFECTING NPCS. I'm asking for some SELF CONTROL and COMMON COURTESY and RESPECT of other players.
Stop corpse camping lowbies.
Do not constantly keep NPCs dead for extended periods of time in major quest hubs.
If someone asks you to stop killing them. ESP if there is no way within the mechanics of the game for them to defend themselves (say a 12 vs 55) STOP.
Stop chewing out and swearing at people for cleansing you.
Threatening people with real life harm because they killed you as a zombie can get you banned. Joking or not.
Killing zombies and cleansing infected players is a legitimate style of play (if not more considering if you're playing "realistically" your characters would be traitors, shot, and hung for intentionally infecting your people)
Have fun but not at the unmerciful expense of others. If you find griefing fun. You're an ass.
I'm not against the event. I'm against how far some are taking it.

I'm taking two wonderful things from this long discussion:
"Undeath Happens" and "May the best man/thing/pile of bones win!" Which I'm going to look at as "man-thing-pile of bones", all one entity.
I'd also like to confirm the Plagued Residents. I saw them outside the Exodar. The first was a group of 5 - one out in front like a leader, the other four clustered together. The second time was a lone zombie. They do infect you.
So far, I've been able to cleanse myself on the 1st try most of the time. Cleansing others still seems to have a high resistance. I tend not to cleanse players unless they ask, but I WILL - someone complaining or not - cleanse any and all NPCs. Most especially ones with functionality that lends to gameplay (quest givers, merchants, trainers, battlemasters, auctioneers, etc... pretty much anything that isn't a commoner, and I might cleanse them too!)
