Don't worry too much about crit, hit and +dmg are more important.
Of course it's always nice to have, but I'm sitting at 12-14% crit unbuffed in raid gear, and i have no problems performing excellently (~1100 spell dmg helps).
Over the course of a long fight, steady regular damage is better than big hits, especially if you end up having to stop dps because you chained 2-3 crits at the beginning.

It's more a problem of common misconceptions and thus difficulty to find acceptance than a real optimisation problem.
After the 2.0 patch, moonkins have become very good dps if geared and handled correctly, and I suppose that it's more or less of the same with ret paladins (maybe slightly less dps but increased raid utility).

Depends on the warlock/hunter/rogue (and the moonkin too) as well as the level of progression your at. Top 5 charts is mostly a question of skill and gear, as well as 100% concentration on the fight.
But i know of moonkins who can get top 5 in T6 content, and I've been able to be top5 or better in T4/T5 content, so moonkin dps IS there.
(it requires an adapted group and raid debuffs, but that's the same as each other class)

Celdhyrean is exactly right. While the great theorycrafters and top guilds may not see a balance druid as a viable raid slot in terms of min/maxing the raid, the simple fact of the matter is that those of us who aren't on the cutting edge of new content do not need the same level of min/maxing on encounters where strategies are well known.
If you play your class strong, do a lot of research and optimize talents and rotations then you should have no problem getting that raid slot, and in time hopefully others will see that you have earned it.

I've had a balance druid in greens and blues do kara from attuneman to curator without a problem
then it was my curfew that killed the raid....
