i haven't read thru all 4 pages to see if someone's already made this point or not, but the difference between a frost mage AOEing all the trash down, and a frostfire mage AOEing all the trash down is Master of Elements (rank 3 returns 30% of mana cost per spell crit). Blizzard costs a whopping 2200 mana (or 2500 if you're not specced into whichever talent that escapes my mind at the moment to reduce to cost of all spells). Yet, for every crit you make with blizzard, you're getting mana back. If you crit 3 times, then you've already got almost all of the mana it cost to cast blizzard. If not, then your slowly getting your mana back based on your MP5, which isn't gonna be that high unless you spec into the arcane talents for mana back while casting. I think this, in and of itself makes the frostfire spec much more worthy even for trash mobs.

Busting your ass and demonstrating a good attitude and a commitment to your best is the single best way to get an invite to that guild you think worth while. You really never know when someone who is in the position to make that offer is in your PuG.
i know which guilds are good and i know when i need to impress. so far i haven't pugged with any of the top guilds on my server. dont bring up the alt example cause even the raiding alts are wearing the same guild tag as the main. i'm sure there are plenty of players in good guilds who have alts in a different guild, but my server isnt one of them.
Back in classic I was in a solid raiding guild. Over time I contributed in ways that caused me to be promoted to an officer. I was also a raid leader. That meant that when I was on if people needed something or had a problem or even just wanted to chat, I would find my self up to my ears in guild business. Most of the time that was fine because I signed up for it, but every so often I just wanted to play the game. So I had a "secret" alt in another guild. I wasn't special either virtually every officer had an alt or two they could hide on. Its very useful btw, nothing like being on an alt and "chatting" up someone you are thinking of promoting to see how they represent the guild.
It is possible that you know the officers/recruiters of the good guilds on your server well enough to make the statement that none of them have hidden alts. Clearly you believe you do. However consider that you are almost certainly wrong.
there's only 2-3 guilds that are actually good on my server (by good i mean cleared at least 2 drakes), and they're not recruiting mages atm.
Perhaps, but that can change in a moment. Someone leaves the game. Real life makes them unable to raid for a while. etc. When that happens and the leadership sits down and says "we need another mage" wouldn't you like your name to be mentioned in a positive light?

Not going to read the pages of the thread.
I got tired of being frostfire, so I was like hey I'll just switch to frost. It can't be that horrible. So, I went and tested it out on a heroic training dummy, and could barely do above 2100 dps by myself. For reference, I do about 3100-3300 on the training dummy as frostfire.
I'm not a newb to frost-- I know to use cd's at first then cold snap. I raided as frost throughout all of t4 and t5 until I got 2pt5 and did arcane. Frostfire is clearly a superior spec, and being frost because you're stubborn is just holding your raid down. And don't be like but I'm in the top 5 as frost. If that's the case then if you spec'd frostfire you would be first. Don't hold down the raid.

Well, i would never moan about player's talent spec, as long as they play that spec at the best of their personal abilities.
A Game is meant to be fun, if you are forced into a spec you don't want to do, then it really isn't your character, is it?

Don't hold down the raid.
i think the other 5-7 dps classes that are below the frost mage are the ones holding down the raid
edit: i know the mage being frost isnt helping the situation but the raid leader might wanna get rid of those guys first
Well. Most normally the classes below the mages will be shamans and druids which bring huge raid buffs or undergeared dps. Also, sometimes &*!@ can happen in the fight. Like last night on maexxna, I popped icey veins with heroism then got stuck on the wall for 15 seconds. I went from 2nd dps to 8th =(
Also once all the pure dps get similarly geared and are skilled-- the top 10 dps spots are super competitive. Last nights patchwerk kill had 9 people above 4100 all within .2% of each other. Except for the hunters since they're op and getting nerfed =P
A Game is meant to be fun, if you are forced into a spec you don't want to do, then it really isn't your character, is it?
i agree with this statement
in the end, it's your $15/month. play however way you wish
Not when you're raiding with 10 or 25 other people who are depending on your abilities to not be super frustrated by wiping on bosses.
