Ok, first, if you look at the line of any weapon or gear in the spreadsheet on the gear page (you need to unhide that first) you will see all your stats. Each column has a header at the top to tell you what that column is, AP for attack power, Sta for Stamina and so on. Now, you add gear by clicking on the row number, once highlighted, right click and select copy, then while still highlighted and with the flashing outline, right click again and select "insert copied cells".
You now have a duplicate of whatever gear you copied. Start at the beginning and change the name. Then move left to right adding each stat. Do not mess with the sections before the Str column. Start there and add the stats if your gear has it. If not, then delete any number there and move on. If your gear has a gem slot, then put a "1" in the box under the color of the gem slot it has. Those are they R, Y, B, M column headers. If your gear is part of a tier 8, 9 or 10 set, then put a "1" in the appropriate column for that as well. On weapons, click on the DPS box and look to the top line. There is a formula that may look something like this:
=0.5*(200+301)/1.4
Change the minimum (200) and maximum (301) damage in this formula to match what your weapon does, the numbers are in it's tool tip or here on wowhead. Last thing on a weapon is to find the speed column that your weapon fits in and put a "1" in that slot so that the spreadsheet knows what speed weapon you are using.
There you go. That is step by step how to add gear to spreadsheets. It is the same for every spreadsheet except that the column names may be in different order or some such, but you should be able to tell what is what pretty easily.
Now, save your spreadsheet to a new name, open the "Equipment" page and use the drop down menus to select your gear. The spreadsheet does the rest and should give you a pretty dang accurate model of what your maximum DPS is, what gems it thinks you should use to get the most DPS, what upgrades you should look for and if you want, you can select different gear and gems and such to see how it would effect your DPS. Keep in mind, you need to select on the "Settings" page, what buffs you do have or can expect for your raid. A change in buffs can DRAMATICALLY change your DPS.
Note, all the above is written specifically for Aldriana's spreadsheet but is basically the same for all of them. The reason you don't have all the old gear in there is that over the past year or so, around 70-100 pieces for each slot have been added and withe each new expansion or update or whatever, more is added and the size of the spreadsheet would grow out of control and it's usability would suffer.
Happy spreadsheeting, link this post to others if you find it helpful.

I don't know why that quotation was necessary. I didn't say anything bad about him or her. I just said it would be nice if he left the gear in there from the original wotlk spreadsheet I have. Not everyone will have top of the line gear, some people may have pieces that take forever to get replaced. The list of items would be longer, that's not that bad.
I will try this again when I get home from work.It would be more annoying for the people the sheet is aimed at. I don't want to scroll through a bunch of useless crap to get the item I'm looking for, and no one else does either.

I don't really understand what you are saying now. All I said is that he or she could have just added to the list instead of just adding the top gear.
All Triumph badges gear which is easily available is in the sheet. If you have gear which is worse than that - don't waste on this forum. Do some bloody heroics.

If only there was some way to add gear not already pre-set in the spreadsheet...

note to the latest posts. THe spreadsheets are designed to min/max endgame raiding preformance, so low level gear is left out. If your upset about it, post on the EJ forums and get laughed at or learn to add it manually.
Also for some more lazy people out there someone has created a java app that will upload your items from the armory automatically and run your dps output assuming all 25 man buffs are present and you have BiS enchantments (there is usually only one choice for these anyway and the buffs/debuffs and enchants arent editable yet). Its pretty accurate and the EJs guys have been helping the author fix up the code so give it a shot.
Its very intuitive to use and gives excellent advice on gemming your gear (it actually models all possible gemming configs and tells you the best gem to use in that slot).
Here is a link to the applet evolution on google:
Rogue DPS Java App
Here is a link to he discussion forum on EJs:
Java App Discussion Thread
Anyway, hope this helps you guys up your dps.
And the app does not contain much low lvl gear but is editable to add it, it is explained how to do it in the discussion thread, but as others have stated, if you are in that low level gear stop reading these forums and go farm heroics.

It does evaluate the set bonuses and assigns them an EP of their own.

Hmmm, first it's telling me I should be doing 9533 dps as combat HnS. On Saurfang, I do maybe 7k-8,400, depending on my raid comp. I went through the list of gems too, and saw it wanted me to gem Agility, so I started doing so to see the difference, and as I went down the list of items and switched to agility, it then made me switch to ArP. So I went back and noticed all the gems I had JUST switched to Agility, switched to ArP.
This is frustrating to see the dps it tells me I should be doing and I am nowhere near that.
Rotation is 3-4 CP SnD, 5 CP Evisc, CDs every time they are up, haste pot during heroism. Only thing I can think of is that I have to tricks the tank many times during the fight and don't have my set bonus yet. Would this account for 500+ dps loss?

NVM...I can see what the gems changed. The value of ArP was at the threshold of taking over when I regem. When I get my new chest piece, which has ArP on it, it will push me up over too. I'll wait to regem when I get that.

It does evaluate the set bonuses and assigns them an EP of their own.
Noob question,
What's EP ?
Thanks :)
EP = Equivalency Point
Essentially each stat is given a number associated with how much DPS you gain or lose by adding or subtracting that stat.
AP is always equal to 1 EP and everything else is based off of that.
So for my toon, my EP values are:
AGI: 1.95
HIT: 1.70
CRI: 1.71
HST: 1.79
EXP: 0.00 (Cause I'm capped)
ARP: 1.82
AP: 1 (This value is a commonly held assumtion when using EP and is not stated in the display of the sheet)
So for me, when gemming red sockets i receive the biggest DPS increase from gemming 40AP gems as those are worth 40EP. Followed by 20AGI gems which are worth 38EP. Then ARP, HST, CRI, and Hit respectively.
Depending on your gear you will have different EP values and thus be encouraged to gem for different stats at different times.
The sheet is awesome cause it does the thinking for you in that once a particular stat outweighs another it will automatically suggest you to gem the highest valued stat.
As far as the DPS goes, it assumes you have all the raid buffs and debuffs a rogue would benefit from, so if you are running a raid with 2 prot warriors, 5 rogues, and 3 priests your DPS will vary considerably from this apps estimation.

Mine ended up at
AGI 2.05
ArP 2.04
Exp 2.1 (but with a single gem, it goes below 0, so it's not worth the gem)
Hit 1.99
HST 1.91
As you can see, this is a perfect example of why my dps has come to a halt and the itemization is so sensitive, a spreadsheet is necessary to get it right on. One piece of armor or type of gem will completely change what type of gems I should be using.
Blizzard is trying to get away from this type of system in Cata, unfortunately. I really feel taht the people who take the time to use these spreadsheets and put some thought into it shoudl be rewarded. Unfortunately, the money in Blizzard's pocket thinks otherwise.

what's strange is I'm expertise capped on my mut set and the spreadsheet still says exp's ep is at 2.15.....still recommends me ap gems, but still alil strange.

The spreadsheet never changes the EP of expertise once capped. You are assumed to have a brain and know certain things about game mechanics.
