Hello, my first post :) just joined wowhead.
I've read most of posts here about those gloves etc.
Almost all posters seem to miss something basic.
World of Warcraft is a game.
Games have rules. These rules state that warriors can wear from cloth to plate armor. Logically they can get any item that is better than what they have equipped. Even if it wear cloth with +infinite intellect or something.
Now if i pick a priest just to say I can only wear cloth and a leather wearer wants a cloth item or plate healer etc I would be just stupid (equal to delete that char and create a paladin for example).
Same for this whole argument. Say I m a rogue i wear leather and need
stamina (just to leave dps for a while from the conversation :P) and a cloth armor had it while the best leather i could have hadn't I would want it wouldn't I?
Apply this to this whole argument. Hope it helps understanding.
I am a warrior and this fact will make some ignore my post but is the truth. The rules of the game are those. You play by them. Not by a "wise" guild master or experienced player or something thinks he knows how you must play...

I haven't read this whole thread - I only read the first two pages. Interesting topic, just thought I'd throw something in to be played around with.
I see it this way - if Blizzard didn't want to allow this, then we wouldn't have the proficiency to wear anything OTHER than plate armor. It seems logical that just because we CAN use plate armor, it doesn't mean that we HAVE to. We have the proficiency for everything. Sure, I'd take plate armor over leather/mail if it provided the same amount of stats, but like many people have said, if its an upgrade, its an upgrade. As long as any leather/mail-wearers are alright with it, then its fair game to roll.

Ok, well I am a rogue my opinion is:
If it is best in slot for that class, that class ought to be allowed to roll on that piece.
Best in slot should go to best in slot regardless of proficiency. Everyone will get their chance at these pieces eventually, or something better will drop from Ulduar.
At endgame armor proficiencies mean jack. Best in slot is best in slot period.
However, if a raid is still progressing and rolling on items that are not best in slot then armor proficiencies should be enforced to prevent items from turning over too fast to people who have access to more upgrades i.e. plate/mail wearers.

Yep, thats all I'm arguing for really. I'll list the three, maybe four, that I'd roll on;
Stalk-Skin Belt
Sinner's Bindings
Frosted Adroit Handguards
Infectious Skitterer Leggings
There are others that are best-in-slot, and I'd wear them, but I wouldn't roll on them. Why? Because it's clear in other cases that they are a marginal upgrade for a Warrior whilst a massive one for others. That isn't the case for the items above.
I'm not sure I would roll against a leather wearer on those leggings. With the announced (possible) change to sunder armor it looks like ArP is returning from the dead and hence I would aim for the Double Strike leg plates instead. For the other items I aggree (got the belt already, still practicing on Malygos), though wristwraps of the cutthroat will soon be better too.

That is the worst example I have ever seen. It's your first post, so you get
some
leeway... but no, that doesn't help understanding at all. By "leaving dps out of the conversation", you are basically saying nothing.
When you join a raiding guild, you are abiding by rules above and beyond simple game mechanics. You have to work and interact with real people (ok, their fake avatars), and loot rules are set up to provide a structure for the benefit of all members, to improve their ability to contribute to raids.
This discussion is about that. You are saying things like this:
Games have rules. These rules state that warriors can wear from cloth to plate armor. Logically they can get any item that is better than what they have equipped. Even if it wear cloth with +infinite intellect or something.
I always talk generally. Of course if in raid etc there are other rules set you should follow them too. For what I said about not listening to someone else how you play by the way it's not meant to play for yourself just dont copy "leather is for druids and rogues I never roll" cause many say it etc.
