^ Agreed, but try out new things. No since going with the same cookie cutter build as every other mage your going to encounter. Take a look at your talents and figure out what would be useful in what situation and how often you would use it.

Sadly things become cookie-cutter because they work and work well.
Sadly I can't help in what talents to use exactly. I only know the cookie-cutter spec is 17/0/44 and you already know that info.

I'm 0/0/61 (former cookiecutter since season1 :p) for PvP since I noticed I rarely miss those CS's and like you all know only nablets pre-counter nowadays since with those pally auras and all talents that make CS almost too short already. :P
More damage and tools to survive in deep deep frost - and it's working for me :)
Other longtime fav was 0/40/21 or 0/30/31. Arcane sucks for me >:)
You have to be drunk... Ice block and combustion?
You don’t get the benefit from your ice elemental (One of the most annoying things from ice tree) or the extra crit/damage from being deep fire. I have to agree with Ikari cookie cutter seems to be that way because they work. If it is not broken don’t fix it. Also imp scorch/incineration… if you are going to go fire (PvP or PvE) why would you ever skip that….
Dont listen to Kelessa for the love of all that is holy
That is a very much viable spec (I'd pick diff talents from fire tho), one that requires a complete different playstyle than frost tho. It works more like deepfire PvPing but just without Dragon's Breath, instead you have shatter (fireball+icelance tsk tsk), iceblock and coldsnap. More survivability by sacrificing some dps, just like deepfrost, but not so hardcore.
Other thing where this build excels is mana efficiency, I've used it alot for 5on5 and I can say it works wonders, scorchdraining a healer inbetween of CCing. :)

Arena specs, it really depends on multiple things.
1. Your playstyle if you prefer fire spamming scorch for frosts survivability.
2. Your arena partner if you have another dps with you could choose to go with a pom pyro build but if you do this you will need to be with someone who's going to tank for a bit for you such as another frost mage or a SL lock.
3. Arena what are you doing 2v2? 5v5? 2v2 if your going double dps then pom pyro is decent for the burst in lower brackets but anything above 1900 you may have some trouble. 5v5 Generally if the other team see a frost shield they will avoid you. Mana shield they know you are either AP or heavy fire. Mages in 5v5 are usually there for CC and annoyance elemental can do this for you if you enjoy the spec or heavy frost. Mind you if you choose elemental practice in bg's its one of the harder specs to pvp well with.

It really depends on your arena team makeup. I would say almost all 99% of top mages are a variant of Water Elemental. The majority within that group have Improved CS while others prefer Impact. So the choice is yours to either go 17/0/44 or something like 0/5/56 or 0/7/54.
