I tested with my char and gear, with about 630 spelldamage
Full Fire Fireball did about 493 Dps
Full Arcane Arcane Missiles did about 532 DPS

Sorry, I misread that as DPS.
Yeah, Fireballs DPM was a lot better than Arcane Missiles.
Fireball's DPM was 3.9
Arcane Missile's DPM was 3.4

ahh, right, I knew I was missing something.
Unfortunately, Warcrafter doesn't seem to have a buff for Scorch, but a manual calculation would put the results at:
Fireball ~ 566
Arcane Missiles ~ 532
Which puts fireball roughly 6% ahead on the DPS charts.
I guess that proves what everyone's saying. :)

As to the Fire vs Arcane debate, the +hit talents in Arcane mean you can stack more damage or haste. As those hit talents are an Arcane staple... :)
Either way, I think Fire still comes out on top.

Ah, right, forget about that either.
Too lazy to calculate that, but a rough estimate would be:
On short fights (where you don't get a chance to stack Imp. Scorch), Arcane Missiles comes up on top by about 7-8%
On longer fights, Fireball comes out on top, by about 2-3% (3-4% removed since arcane can stack more +damage).

Absolutely love this guide, much of useful info (although I knew most of it already) - especially the hit rating info. Good to see exact numbers, as I plan to take up raiding sometime soon.

As for fire against arcane, I'm not sure - haven't tried both yet. Apparently though, spell haste should work really great with arcane - and arcane mages can get haste items instead of +hit. Add to that icy veins, and you should have some quite decent DPS and DPM.
Also, arcane is getting buffed in 2.4 (Well.. sort of), seeing as no arcane mage will neglect to get arcane meditation AND that they have the highest intelligence of all mages.

Not too sure where to begin.
You're probably talking about the Mystical Skyfire Diamond, which has has a chance to reduce the cast time of any spell by half. (100% spell haste, basically).
This is potentially devastating, as it can increase your DPS to godly levels, especially when used with arcane missiles (until they nerfed it, that is).
While it's true that you will drain your mana like nothing, you're also doing a huge amount of damage in a very short time, ie. killing things much, much faster. In fact, if you think about it, DPM remains the same, but DPS increases by a lot.

I was wondering why you have 2 points of arcane subtley in the 17/0/44 frost pvp spec. What does threat have to do in PvP???
I would think just standing in the arena would generate threat.
