Are you opposed to a functioning society? Or is Laihendi misunderstanding you again?

Laihendi...

Laihendi hasn't seen any evidence proving him guilty or innocent, so Laihendi has no opinion on the matter.

Assuming he is innocent, opinion?
Assuming he is guilty, opinion?

Assuming he's innocent... ok?
Assuming he's guilty... at least he lost the election.

Assuming he's guilty... at least he lost the election.
I differ slightly.
Assuming he is innocent.... not really ok, no. The prosecution messed up by trying to go after him, and caused quite a mess.
Assuming he is guilty... not ok that he just lost the election. The prosecution messed up by not doing it by the book, so now a guilty man goes free.

But you and Laihendi don't know if he's innocent or guilty.

Agreed. I'm simply pointing out that... either way... the prosecution was horrible. The real question is, was it politicially motivated? Incompetence? Why?

Laihendi is going to guess that only a very small group of people really know :-/

It seems that the major objections to a Socialist government would be:
1) It encourages those who are receiving the money from the "rich" to become lazy, as they are basically getting stuff for free.
2) Corrupt governments will pollute the system of "shared wealth" to the point where it becomes a system that does more harm than good.
3) It discourages innovation and drive because the more you work, the less you get per amount of time worked.
Proposed solutions:
1) A dual currency system. Currency #1 would be similar to the monetary system in place today. You earn it, you spend it. Currency #2 would be more of a credit system. If you find yourself unable to survive, but you are working "X" hours per day, then you get "Y" dollars from the "shared wealth" system. In essence, if you are "really" trying to earn your keep; and for whatever reason, you cannot; you are provided for, as long as you continue to try to earn your keep.
2) No solution to this, and Solution #1 actually contributes to problem #2. If the government was the judge of who was working "hard enough" to get money from the System, then it leaves it even further open to corruption.
Money doesn't just grow on trees. Where does this credit come from? Ultimately, it has to come from the rich, in which case you've changed nothing.

I'm guessing you're referring to my idea of the Currency Credit System. This wouldn't be an actual currency at all, merely a number that states how "hard" you are working to earn your living. From there, the government would (in the case that you cannot provide for you/your family) decide whether or not you should get
funding
, based on whether you are actually trying to provide.
Funding. That's the key word. Where is the government getting this money?

They're getting it from those who are working and have surplus funds (aka the rich) and those who refuse to work but have surplus. In essence, everyone would get two numbers:
Working "Effort" Score and Income/Amount Needed to Survive
If the Effort Score is below "X" amount and the candidate has a low ratio of Income/Survival Amount (They do not make enough money to survive.), then the candidate is automatically removed from the group that is receiving any money.
If the Effort Score is below "X" amount and the candidate has a high ratio of Income/Survival Amount (They make more money than they need.), then they are at the top of the list to "donate" money. In essence, their wealth would be the first source of funding.
If the Effort Score is above "X" amount and the candidate has a low ratio of Income/Survival Amount (They do not make enough money to survive.), then they are at the top of the list to RECEIVE money.
If the Effort Score is above "X" amount and the candidate has a low ratio of Income/Survival Amount (They make more money than they need.), they are #2 on the "donate money" list. In essence, their wealth would be the second source of funding.
Again, this would be a government related system, and I personally think it would become corrupt in a minute amount of time. I am against any system of this sort outside of a Perfect World.
I'm going out of town starting tomorrow morning. I will be online really early (in ~7 hours) to check this, but I will not be back until Monday morning. =( Keep this going, guys!
You haven't changed anything. That's still a form a socialism. You're just given it mathematical labels.
What you're trying to get at is a social safety net, which most pseudo-welfare-states have already.
