While I agree with you, Seneca, I feel it is unrealistic to stick to your guns about being tank only healer.
Especially in 25 man with the content already on farm...
My suggestion to you is to request a tank healing assignment, work with your class lead, or the raid lead. Though, often in 25 mans that are on farm, its more of a 'who can heal the hurt person first' contest. Usually a contest won by HoTs and and WG/CoH.
If you find yourself in this situation, do whatever you can to help out. Put renew on anything with aggro, shoot a PoM at someone you know will take damage, shield anyone with aggro every time they lose weakened soul.
The converse of this, is if the raid takes less healers to compensate for having gear already, and you really do need to pull your weight. If this is the case, again request a tank healing assignment. But, instead of shooting off your stuff around the raid, put it on your tank. You should get an addon that shows you who has gained aggro, and if anything but the tank gets any shield them immediately. This will give them a much better chance to survive and get heals from a raid healer.
On fights like sapphron, its also wise to use PoM on something other then the tank. Use your single target heals to keep the tank up, and throw PoM on a random person, or yourself, so it bounces around the raid more efficiently. Rather then between two melee dps, or just hits the tank once and goes away (happens sometimes in groups with little melee dps).
All in all... understand that while you specialize in tank healing, you are still a priest. The most versatile healing class in the game. If you only heal the tank and ignore the rest of your potential... you are doing your job, sure, but not helping the raid out as much. Use all your abilities to the fullest and your raid will surely invite you anytime they have an opening.

Also, just a starting disclaimer-- disc priests have the worst raids heals. Not that we can't, but every other spec of healers just do it better.
Disc heals are not the most effective in the current raid encounters now. Most fights there's only one tank to heal, so you will be fighting for tank healing, especially if you are with a holy paladin. For raid heals, make sure to throw out a PoM if there's lots of raid damage. Also, casting PoH with borrowed time is pro. If there's predictable raid damage, pw:s is amazing.
For instance, raid heals on saph-- use penance on the mt should be more than enough mt heals. Throw shields around on cooldown and keep pom in the raid. Spam renews around with borrowed time.
I honestly just spam spam spam heals all over the place just so I don't get bored, and there are often overhealing contests on every boss fight (even with 5 healers in 25, so we're doing 4 next week). I pretty much have unlimited mana, and welcome the nerf to rapture so I may have to think about healing.
I think in Ulduar, disc will be far more effective. Multiple tanks needing heals, or tanks taking huge damage, like in 3 drake Sarth, really make disc shine.

I honestly don't see a need for a discipline raid MT healer, b/c as holy your heals will be much stronger on the tank. Shielding a tank is a terrible idea b/c it reduces the aggro the tank can hold, especially a tankaden where he has 2k+ damage of no reflective damage. It is also more mana efficient to heal a dps rather than shield him.
Also, once patch 3.1 comes out, Divine Spirit will become a class skill and not a talent point.
While some people make it work in raids, I find discipline is best suited for pvp encounters where they truely shine by being able to keep themselves alive much longer than a holy priest.

I will admit that I don't know a ton about discipline healing, but I've been planning on respecing discipline as soon as I can start playing again...my comp kinda doesn't like me right now.
Also, one thing I havn't been able to figure out, is how you could get a shield up to 6k...it would definately be nice if you could enlighten me to where my ignorance lies on this issue.

Once you get above like 2100sp, your shields absorb 6k. I know at about 2450sp it absorbs around 6400.
Also, disc can put up divine aegis shields, which with a crit gheal for 14k, absorbs 4200 damage.

And also... correct me if I'm wrong... but isn't a glyphed Shield followed by a hasted Penance and Flash Heal the best burst healing throughput you can get right now?
For gauging you shield abosorbtion amount, do you just multiply the glyph heal by 5? Or is the glyph heal affected by talents and such, and therefore isn't a reliable number to use?

A greater heal with 5/5 Divine Fury (tier 2 holy talent) after a hasted penance is more throughput. Same if you didn't have borrowed time, gheal is more throughput that flash heal.

And, I'm certain Sen has some nice Spell Power.
I've seen that, and a unbuffed shield at rank 14 shields for 2230; 40% of 2100 is 840 for a total of 3070. If you add an additional 15%, your at 3530.5...what am I doing wrong, because somewhere along the line you nearly double what I got.
