I use the addons called Healbot & Decursive. You may find them at Curse.com or by using the Wowmatrix.com software.
Healbot displays a small translucent grid of the player(s) from solo to raid +pets. I identify the main tanks and place Earth Shield (mouse button-5) on one of them. I recast Earth Shield whenever it is ready to expire. I periodically cast Riptide (mouse button-4) on whomever is losing a fair amount of health show on the healbot health bars.
On the tank (or raid for that matter) I use a combination of Chain Heal (mouse button-middle) and Lesser Healing Wave (mouse button-left). When I need to do a big heal I use Healing Wave (mouse button-right).
Note: The extra buttons on my mouse allow me to use the mouse completely without having to resort to the keyboard.
You keep an eye on the healbot health bars and
mouse-over
the person needing healing. Then it is simply a matter of clicking the appropriate button.
De-Cursive works much the same way except it displays a row (or several rows) of small squares. When someone gets poisoned, diseased or cursed, the color of the squares will change and you'll hear a "bong" through the speakers. Just move your mouse over to the appropriate square and right-click. It is just that easy.
Thankfully, Healbot & Decursive work with each other just fine. No conflicts in my experience.

One of the things I've learned that most others wont tell you is that you need to know when to use HW vs. LHW. Lots of people will say "glyph LHW and use only it" (although I dont glyph LHW, since I mainly use it to top people off) and others (like I used to) will say "get healing way and use only healing wave, because HW is more HPM and HPS than LHW."
I use LHW a lot, and on some fights it actually accounts for more of my healing than HW, even though I am a big HW proponent. LHW is better when:
You need a faster cast for reasons of mobility (e.g. Keristraza, phase 2 of Heigan) or procs (e.g. Ancestral Healing or proc-based trinkets/meta)
You need a faster cast so the target does not die mid-cast (very noticable on Gluth's Decimate or after a web wrap from Maexxna, or on Kel'thuzad's Frost Blast...while riptide is more suitable LHW is the next best option)
You are just topping someone off
who is not near enough any damaged party members to make chain heal useful
, as topping off a single target is done quicker and with less mana cost using LHW (CH is better for both on just the first jump)
You do NOT have healing way and you DO have glyph of earth shield (as HW-HW is better than Glyphed LHW)
Even if you are a proponent of LHW, HW does have it's uses:
When used with pre-casting or with Nature's Swiftness, HW will make the hit bigger. HW is one of my favorite spells to use on Grobbulus, as I will start casting when the disease has about 2 seconds left on someone (thus healing them for almost all of the damage within a half second of them taking it), as well as to hit people on Mal'ganis after his mind blast
If you are hitting people who do NOT have earth shield on them, glyph of LHW doesn't apply, and HW is better HPS and HPM even without Healing Way
If you glyph Healing Wave, it makes it a lot easier to heal yourself while healing other people
Healing Wave makes better use of Tidal Waves because it makes the buff last 67% longer if used with HW (with 0 haste, it lasts 2.1 sec with LHW, and 3.5 sec with HW).
However, here is the important info on other abilities:
CH is your most mana efficient spell if there's more than 1 jump, and is the most HPS past 2 jumps (unless you have tidal waves, in which LHW or HW is most HPS)
Riptide is nice for an instant cast and if you let the HoT run, however its real power is in proccing Tidal Waves or in using it to boost Chain Heal, or for use without stopping your movement. It will generally be better to use CH at the end of the HoT, but using it early in the HoT will not result in much healing lost.
Other tips:
Dispel fast. With some exceptions, it is better to dispell a debuff (such as an MS curse or a DoT poison) than to heal through it. Use your totems and your cleanse spirit as much as you can.
Use things before you
need
to. This includes both pre-casting heals as well as casting Mana Tide before you need it (meaning at half mana instead of at 0 mana). The reason is it gives you more time to work on other things, and with mana tide it means you dont spend a few seconds waiting for mana that you could have got sooner (also, on longer fights it means you may get an extra tide in).

sick, soo happy with the posts , gives me a lot to think about . My buddy is running heal bot too , i think thats what ill be getting, seems to be the best way.. I had a question tho, when your in BG/raid (Mainly a bg..), are you able to adj heal bot so that only people in range show up or maybe appear as a different colour ?

Yes. If someone is out of range, the bar turns and stays more translucent until they come into range, then it become opaque. I sometimes wish I could adjust the letter next to be more readable though I just haven't spent the time to adjust the settings.

Also a small little addon called "Visual Heal" it shows you how much you will heal your target in a movable frame. You can really see if you are going to need to top up.
It helps... and if your target uses it too they can see there is a heal incoming. :)
Also I use Grid.

Actually, I use something extremely similar to yourself... except I recently discovered that HealBot also supports showing curses, poisons, diseases, etc. in a way similar to Decursive. It involves tweaking HealBot slightly in the options, but if you're interested I'd more than glad to show you how to do it.

Sure. I'm reasonably familiar with Healbot option so a brief "go there, turn on that" would probably be all I need. No doubt you're on another sever than I (Nazgrel).
