Heya.
I'm a Prot Warrior too and have been dabbling in PvP since my early 20's (now up at 62). I have managed to get about half the achievements for WSG, AB and AV, and got 5 of 6 parts of one of the Classic armour sets and an Epic Mount (Stormpike Battle Charger) before I got fed up and went back to questing.
First thing I would say, is get your macros sorted. When I started out, I was a clicker, and that got me owned over, and over, and over.
I now have a couple of key macros:
Assault (Middle Mouse): Casts Charge, Berserker Rage, Bloodrage, Concussion Blow and/or Shield Bash. The purpose of this is to get you some VITAL rage right from the off, and open combat with any class. I have a Rapid Charge Glyph, Charge Glyph, and Bloodrage Glyph. What this means is I can charge from further than other Warriors, and get to casters quicker, I can charge again sooner, and I generate rage to get things started. My Bloodrage costs me no health due to the Glyph. As soon as I start combat, any class is finding itself either stunned, or silenced for a few vital seconds. Get the "Warbringer" ability ASAP that allows you to charge in any stance, and breaks holds when you do charge, totally vital for chasing down Mages and Hunters.
Devastate (Mouse 5): This is almost your standard attack - the damage builds as you stack it, it's quite cheap, and it has a chance to allow a free Shield Slam, which is one of your killers. Use it a lot.
Revenge (Mouse 4): Stack Revenge and Heroic Strike on this together, with a Glyph of Revenge fitted. When Revenge lights up (use your Shield Block against melee classes and watch it go), hit this, then hit it again for the free Heroic Strike.
Life (num pad 3 or SHIFT - MIddle Mouse): Casts Shield Wall, Last Stand, uses trinkets such as Talisman of Arathor, and uses a potion. Use this when you are looking to be getting a beating, and buy yourself 12 - 20 more seconds, to either run like fun, or kill your enemies. I have been in AV, with 12 Hordies whaling on me, and that lovely lovely Shield Wall makes it stupidly hard for them to finish the job. Yes, I do die in the end, but it takes them an age. Be warned though, if you live through your fight, when Last Stand drops, it CAN kill you as you walk merrily away.
I have a couple of others but they are pretty minor. Just don't be a clicker, learn how to rotate abilites for maximum effectiveness, and get the gear, talent tree picks, and Glyphs you need to support this.
I'm afraid thought that for the most part, as a Warrior, you are destined to be cooked by just about anyone, but this should help. I'd like to point out however, that I am a first time WoW player, and I just came up with this myself about a month back, and although it seems to work for me, more experienced and knowledgeable players might see it as total cack. Don't be too harsh on me :)

Step 1: Get the warrior to level 55.
Step 2: Roll a DK.
Step 3: Hit level 80, find a Holy Paladin partner.
Step 4: Easy 2200.
This just fails. On top of that, become a good warrior, and eat DK's for lunch playing holy/TG war vs holy/DKnab.
It works, and from what I've heard from one of the top holy pallies in our BG(not the top, but he's damn good), TG warriors are way more powerful than DK's(and the DPS charts show that too).
FotM is fail, on all levels. Don't do it.
