Not every country has a law against downloading copyrighted files. In these countries, said actions aren't illegal. Therefore, they are, in fact, legitimate.
In some countries it is ok, and legal, to drown your children if they show disrespect. So, this is, in fact, legitimate.
No?

who stand for their own moral beliefs and occasionally put a kink into the works of certain groups
Other people who did this:
Ted Bundy
Charles Manson
John Wayne Gayce
Otis Toole
etc.
They were certainly pioneers in standing up for thier own beliefs. True heros to the deviant cause.
Woot, you picked out all the bad guys. Are you trying to say there's never been a good guy to stand out for their own moral beliefs against the "bigger boys"? Really? Really?

You're complaining about my arguments, yet you spew this crap yourself. Just because America has a law against it, doesn't mean the rest of the world has to follow it's laws.

No.
You can be legally executed in some countries for being gay. That's bordering on murder. Murder is ok in some countries, I have the right to kill you.
You see now how your logic can be stupid if you follow it the same way in another situation?
LoL mytie. I guess I wasn't the only one who thought that slimda's logic was critically flawed.

Yes, there has been. Usually this group of "good guys" can be distinguished from the "bad guys" by the fact that one takes advantage, out of desire for personal gain, other people. The difference between, say piracy and abolitionists. One has a good cause, the other is a greedy suburban kid justifying theft.

Pretty much right. Pirates like to think they're Robin Hood to justify what they're doing. If its really right, you wouldn't need to justify your actions.

Well now, since it's perfectly legal in the States to execute people, maybe we should start to execute people too. Hurray!...
Why do you have to pull murder and killing into every debate? We're talking about copying music and files, not killing people. It's like comparing a car-race with the slaughter of an entire race.

Depends on who's judging the act. One culture may praise the sins of another culture.

All situations need to be covered by rules, why have rules if you can break them at will? I use the murder comparison because if someone could just break the rules about murder at will, then society would fall apart.

Sin is sin, wrong is wrong. It doesn't matter how you try to hash it. Just 'cause the Mayan's executed people to their gods doesn't make it right.

I will back this quote and withdraw until something catches my eye, I'm getting really nerd raged at this thread and I'm scaring myself.
Chill and relax. :)
It's been a while since I've had a heated discussion about things, and it feels good.
And with that, I'm off to bed, 2 hours later than originally planned.
<3 to all :)

To them it was right, just as Americans justify their right to execute people.

Execution isn't right, but its function as a deterrent stops a lot of people from going out and killing (although obviously not everyone).

Funny, because I have studied quite a bit on ted bundy, john wayne gayce, and charles manson. None of them were pioneering anything. They were very smart and interesting people no doubt (albeit disturbed), but nothing similar and this post just makes you look like someone who has run out of anything intellectually based to add to the arguement. This is silly and it makes you look extremely childish.
Piracy has been around for a long time too. They don't pioneer anything, as you herald your hackers doing. The people you kids look up to these days are disgusting. And standing up for ACTUAL morals does anything but make me look childish.

That it is not as bad doesn't make it ok.
