I can't say I think realUI is either minimalistic nor simple. It's original, that's all.
This is simple
.

I can also hide a lot of my UI elements and minimize size, but you can first judge an UI's simplicity while almost all UI elements are active, IMO.

Too bad I don't play anymore so I can't log on and take a in-action screen... I dare however say that the one I linked is more simple/minimalist than realUI.

I know you like addons and making interfaces, so what are you currently doing that might be related to this?

Even though I've left the game behind me, I still know about design and work-arounds. I still enjoy this forum and it's visitors, and I do feel I contribute. I still fantasize about UI's on a daily basis
:P

I know what you're talking about. Sometimes I want to draw some ideas, other times I can look at some other interfaces and think "WAUW" which also is a motivation of making a new, but I bet your level is much higher than mine. I'm running a guild too and I recently rerolled for the sake of the guild, so I don't get so much time for UI edits.
I must admit though, that I think it's a part of my personality to have things neat, organized and simple. Ex. I hate when there's messy around me and I hate to be dirty. All my papers from school are saved and organized well in a big map. I hate the letter "y" (unless if it's used as the first word, because then it's "Y") because it's not straight or round, so I tr
y
to avoid it (can be hard with English though). All sorts of thing weird and small things.
Tell me I am not the only one who suffers from this. :P

Well, we Nordic people can quite easily avoid the letter "y"
;)
I'm no neat-freak, but if I want it tidy I want it TIDY(!). not some half-measure of cleaning. As for computer organization, I use 'Desktop' for pretty much everything 'cept for my legally aquired movies which by no means where aquired through some sort of illegal operation involving copywritten material. I only watch non-profit Bollywood movies.
The last part had to be there since here in Sweden we take file-sharing as a bigger issue than increased poverty and a incredibly silly immigration policy. Oh damn it, I went political...

I have decided that it finally time for me to learn lua.
does anyone know of any decent guides? except for the ones on the tukui site.
Post by

Well, you'd probably have to be more specific - or do you want to learn the whole language at once?
Post by

Pretty much just anything and everything about lua.

I'd say; start out with oUF as you get the basics from there and then work your way forward. Both Coldkil and Saft started out like that.

Coldkil
From my experience, start with oUF_Caellian. It's not better than others, or more beautiful, but it has pretty much all included.
That, plus a very readable code are the best things to start.
Otherwise you can use another approach (the one i used to develop my last UFs), go on WoWInterface, into the oUF addon there is a forum with many tutorials, from the easiset to more advanced techniques.
I just downloaded oUF_Classic (very very basic layout) and then started to edit it.
The most difficult thing imho is to discover the names of the various frames :) after that you can mess up things.
Edit: is it possible to change the alpha of frames/statusbars depending on events?

RealUI looks nice as a concept indeed, but it needs quite a lot of work imo judging by the video @ wowi.
The actionbars popping up, the debuff bars, the nameplates, none of them really fit in, and the actionbars could as well be completely hidden or at least the ones that have only keybound stuff.

Over the course of my time in this game, I have used everything from the most simple and minimalist UI's to the heaviest and most demanding out there. But for the last couple of years I've been using the same UI: Default. Because the only AddOn you ever REALLY need is Wowhead Looter.

stuffs video and more stuffs
How were you able to render the video at 1080? I've tried but I can't get it done, always thought it was the resolution I played at but you too play at 1680x1050?
I see your guild needs protection warriors! I shall apply immediately and help your guild in it's current moment of need! (I still want FCM off of my damn $%^&ty server):
You've also kinda inspired me to try not showing other peoples debuffs on the boss, not like I need to see them these days. :p

I open a project with 1920x1072 (yes,72) and just zoom the clips up to the same resolution in vegas. It automatically lets you chop off either the top, bottom, or a bit of both (see
here
for moar)

Nice:) nex step is learn to remove all the panels without make everything disappear :)
(working at action bars, i want them hiddable by pressing a button so i can get rid of them as needed and make them visible for bindings change and so on)
Post by
Earthshockaz
yeah.... what i want to do is make have like a panel at the bottom, with my main action bar 1/2 on and 1/2 off, or something like that. Also how do i change the chat and tool tip font without changing every other font?
