As mentioned before, THE best way to improve Randomness would be to move forum games into their own sub-forum, there's an awful lot of them lately.

I do not like the idea of a user-run randomness.
For example, someone votes in someone who likes participating in forum games, and a person who likes debates, moral/ethical issues etc. is also voted in. They will conflict about everything, if there's a majority then there will be a major shift on a sliding scale, from housing both types, to one type being ignored/locked/whatever else, and the other being praised.
The moderators need to realise, I feel, that Randomness has a community which needs to be moderated in a nuetral way. Sometimes, people moderate here and probably think it's the cesspit of wowhead. The perception of Randomness needs to change, I feel, from both user and Moderator perspectives. The name is quite misleading, randomness. I know the rules are up, but Gryphon locked many Youtube threads last night, by a new guy. I can't help but feel that's down to the name of Randomness, and there not being a clear definition of what you should do in Randomness, until a mod is breathing down your back (metaphorically - if it was real I would get a restraining order).
Therefore, a name change might work to avoid the spam being innocently posted by new users who don't know any better. Non-WoW general, community...and I can't think of many more ideas. :|

IMO, what Randomness needs most is a moderator that understands the inner-workings of the forum. It needs someone raised up to modhood that is a "randomness" user. I believe that the other mods are doing an excellent job, but the fact of the matter is that very few mods can stand coming in here and watching out for bad threads. The only mods (that I know of) that come here without getting a report are ArgentSun, Arideni, and Skyfire. They also don't really understand the people as well as someone that was one. Just my . . .
Note - I realize that this may seem as if I am trying to promote myself to modhood, but I'm not. I wouldn't be adverse to becoming one (
:P
), but I am
not
putting myself forward in front of other people that could do just as well of a job, so please don't see it that way.

I think randomness should have it's own mods, along with the ones like Sky, Argent, Corgan, etc.
Like, they have power over the randomness forum, and that's it.
No banning, just deleting posts and locking... Give the big mods a little bit of a break :P
My votes for those RMods are Queggy, Worldcupfury, and Laihendi / MyTie.

I'd probably request...
1. Heavier moderation (however, not user-run) and a good penalty system (think Blizzard's Penalty Volcano).
2. A possibility of inhibiting posting to some degree (such as creating a limit)
3. Mudfish's suggestion of moving the Forum Games would also be good.
4. Users should know that they DO have ways to moderate the forums. The report button helps. In addition, Site Feedback and e-mailing Feedback@wowhead.com also meet these means. There should be a sticky indicating this in this forum.
5. That post count increase is disabled, or the post count itself is hidden.
I'll try to think of more. It's the morning. >.<

Non-WoW General

maybe renaming it to debate and discussion would be more appropriate since the majority of the posts are centered around those.

Forum games, getting to know eachother threads, wow-art etc. do not fall into that category.
Naming it to one type of post in Randomness would alienate the other types. If Randomness had sub-forums it might work (Like the classes)

MyTie
Chopping up randomness into subforums would make most of the content irrelivant. No one is going to click each subforum. If you divide up randomness, people are just going to migrate to one of the sub forums and the rest will get ignored, and you'll be right back to where you started.
As for renaming the forum... you have changed the name and little else.

But the main goal in re-naming the forum is to cut back on the threads that are made just simply because they are "random" and belong in "Randomness." Again, many people don't read the rules of a forum before they post in it.
Change it to non-wow general and people are gonna make threads with OP like:
"
I bought a pumpkin today. This is non-WoW general, and that had nothing to do with wow. ZOMG LOL
"
The problem is, that people who make dumb threads are going to make them no matter what the name of the forum is. I see what you are saying, but I think the problem is the people, not the fourm name. Although, I'm not opposed to trying it.
