I've been playing online games for about 9 years now and computer gaming in general for about 15.
Typing in games used to be very brief. Then, with the advent of MMO's, communication became paramount. In EQ, in 1999, before ventrilo and all of that jazz, we grouped and guilded and became friends with people solely by typing.
All of my keyboarding classes did nothing compared to playing 35+ hours a week of EverQuest for developing my typing skills. My fingers fly over a keyboard like they do over my wife, I know every contour, I know where each finger will land before it strikes the key.
Using abbreviations such as "lol" and "rofl" has been commonplace since EQ - I will credit this to AIM and other chat programs. However, in WoW, I have noticed that the sheer size of the player base has created new and exciting ways to mangle the English language in typed, online form.
A lot of the things above do not really annoy me. Your and you're, there and their, let's not even discuss "they're"...
However, the one thing that I will reply to in guild chat from my guildies is the intertwining of the word "are" in place of "our".
I can only credit this to a failed public education system and a busload of ignorance.
Are and our aren't even close to being the same word, they don't have different meanings based on spelling, I can't even begin to describe this.
Anyway, that's my little peeve :)
Have fun gaming.

TL;DR: I hate this one too.
I really dislike this acronym too, since it inevitably prefaces an argument that would've been great if it had anything at all to do with the topic. If you can't take the time to read the original post in its entirety, then you probably shouldn't be chiming in on the discussion.

lol ≠ .
'nuff said.
I completely agree. I don't mind most other acronyms because, for the most part, they are used in context. To the OP, I would consider "OMG" or "OMFG" an acceptable response to having a repeated daily quest, ESPECIALLY Oculus (bleh).
However, "lol" holds a special place of hatred in my heart. There are so many people that seem to sprinkle it liberally into every sentence they type.

I am usually only annoyed when its used in a insulting manner (lol l2p nuub, you sux my pines, i pwn you)
What I do despise even more is the people that can’t separate Newb and Noob. I mean come on they are 2 different things learn to separate
But of course everyone has limits about leet speak and acronyms (is it acronyms?)
You just got to learn to live with it to a lesser extent ( and i happen to think that the cats that want a chezzburger are adorable)

I get sick of 'grats'. 'Congrats' isn't short enough? Needed to butcher the word further?

I hate it when people turn a correctly spelled four-letter word into a completely misspelled four-letter word.
Examples:
Give - Gief
What - Whut
Lol (It's used so much now it might as well be considered a word) - Lul
Etc.
Also when people use "leet speak" in real life.
Especially
when it takes less or the same amount of syllables to actually say the words
Examples:
Wtf > What the f*** - Wtf has more syllables when you actually say it
Lol > Laughing. I've actually heard people say "lol" when something funny happens.
Idk = I don't know
I might just be easily annoyed. I don't know, haha.
