Then if the Alliance wins the coming war, that's a decision for the Horde races to make; submit to the Alliance or be destroyed.
And they (at least the orcs), would not submit.
And Varian would have succeeded in destroying a race.
Which would be the fault of the Orcs in this hypothetical scenario.
So because they refuse to be slaves again, it's their fault they're wiped out?

Does anyone find all this a bit... vapid, or a double helix even, that for all through wotlk all Varian has done is yell about how he hates the orcs and wants the destroy the horde, his attack on Thrall and agro caused in the violet citadel and all that..
.. but out of no reason at all he suddenly takes pity onf Saurfangs lose and now acts all semi forgiving to him? It just gets turned around and he acting all noble toward Saurfang in what Muradin says.
In one way its at least something of a progression in terms of character, but it just seems loose in terms of explansion or reasoning, unless this is the other personality Varian has coming to the surface.
Also, well being on the subject, am I alone is thinking what happens with Saurfang Jr (Draenosh) in saying he will never be given any redemption or his soul set free from this is just a sickening thing to do to a character? The idea that one character like Bolvar could be redeemed, but Draenosh can't, and his soul never given that peace, just seems to be rubbing salt into Varok's wounds.
What up with that?

Yeah, we've been discussing Varian quite bit.
I stick to the whole "they're both fathers" thing. Varian knows how he would feel if his son had been subjected to the same, and he knows that he
is
a hero.
Also, Saurfang Jr. does seem to achieve peace when he dies.
IC_Dsaurfang_Death01 - I... Am... Released.
IC_Saurfang_EndHor03 - I made a promise to his mother before she died, that I would cross the Dark Portal alone. Whether I lived or died, my son would be safe, untainted.
IC_Saurfang_EndHor04 - Today, I fulfil that promise.

Ah. well I hope thats the case then. See having a character die in a story is tragic event.. but having them die and there soul devoured or destroyed in some manner and them never finding peace in the afterlife would be far worse. I just hope this means he can find that peace.

don't be so surprised in varian's sudden and unexplained attitude towards an orc, blizz has done this more than once.
varian goes from "half-orc Full-orc it makes no diference, an orc is an orc, and NONE of your kind can be trusted" to "saurfang was a hero, he fought with honor"
it really is a reverse too sudden and unexplicable, but then again it's not the first time.
Garrosh on nagrand: I will not be the second hellscream to doom the orcs.
Garrosh on borean tundra: even the children of our enemy is a threat that must be killed, they would only rise to take arms against us.
that sudden change of character that (as of yet) is still unexplained was something blizz did to garrosh, exclusively because there is nobody hostile enough towards the alliance on the horde-side.
so yhea blizz has a habit of making a character, build him/her/it with specific traits, and suddenly without any aparent reason at all whatsoever, they make a move that makes no sence, and it's tottaly out of place on said character.
this isn't the first time, and it won't be the last time either.
U_U Rest in Peace Draenosh Saurfang, proud warrior of the horde, your memory will NOT be forgotten.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees this, also I'm not just gonna forget his attempt on Thralls life, calling them savages and saying they need to be wiped out, just for a poorly written ret-con of him having a sudden change of character.

I'm just happy he doesn't want to kill Saurfang. If any orcs ever deserved respect, it's the Saurfang family.

I think thats whats intresting actully, in terms of it, given this, and what those soldiers in the keep in howling fjord were saying, many alliance members do respect Saurfang more then given thought to.

Yeah, but he was acting like a complete %^&*!@ in those events too. This event in icecrown is probably the only attempt I'd seen him actully acting like a king.. if it last though remains to be seen.

you know what they say, you know you're good when even the enemy want's you on their team.
=( we still don't know what sparks the gunship battle, I mean, varian seemed like the most likely instigator, but if he's not the one, then who?
let's see, there are 6 key figures here.
Tirion=no way in hell, it would be easier to see a blood-elf kissing a tauren than see tirion provoke a fight of horde vs alliance.
Darion=could be, but it's unlikely, he doesn't give's a rat's ass about the alliance and the horde, he truly is a business man to the end, he focus on the task at hand and pays no attention to petty rivalries (not to mention that assault the lich king with 1 gunship instead of 2 would work against him)
Varian=seemed like the most likely choise but after that comment I'm not so sure anymore, I mean if he truly sparks the conflict then oficially this guy is bipolar, schizophrenic, or something along those lines.
Saurfang= even sugesting something like this is what causes unespected objects to cleave you, so I'll not even mention the posibility of him being the one behind it.
wich leaves us with Muradin: I never tought about him, but by elimination he's the only one who could spark the gunship battle, wich is odd, but meh we're gonna have to wait it out.

As far as I can tell it's just something of a "this is our airspace" type thing:
IC_Saurfang_Ship03 - What is that? Something approaching in the distance!
IC_Saurfang_Ship04 - Alliance gunship! All hands on deck!
IC_Muradin_Ship03 - What in the world is that? Grab me spyglass, crewman.
IC_Muradin_Ship04 - By me own beard... Horde, sailin' in fast and hard.
IC_Saurfang_Ship07 - This is not your battle, Dwarf. Back down or we will be forced to destroy your ship!
IC_Muradin_Ship07 - Not me battle? I dunno who ye think ye are, mister. But I got a score to settle with Arthas, and you're not gettin' in me way. Fire all guns. Fire! Fire!
IC_Muradin_Ship08 - Move your jalopy or we'll blow it out of the sky, Orc. The horde's got no business here!
IC_Saurfang_Ship06 - You will know our business soon! Kor'kron, annihilate them!
It would seem that it's slightly different depending one which side you're on, but either way it's mostly just a misunderstanding. Both sides don't want the other side to catch them vulnerable, so the order they other to depart. When the other side doesn't, they open fire.
