On my pally I don't even have pets shown on my grid... If it's not on my grid it doesn't get heals. As it's been said, everyone is more important then your pet. In a raid if no one is taking damage and they are all at 100% then I gain some mana back and I for sure don't waste it on a pet.
Most healers list of priorities is -
1 - Tanks
2 - Themselves, other Healers
3 - DPS who aren't standing in the fire
.....
99 - Pets
100 - People who stand in the fire
Both of these are why pets usually don't get healed. My friend's Druid heals using X-Perl Raid Bars and he has pets turned off, party and raid.
Also, I think #98 on that Healing Priority is the Boss. ;-)

I'd rather keep a player alive than a pet. Preferably, the meat shield keeping the damage away from me.
If they need a heal, I'll chuck the odd renew or flash heal at one, but that's generally it.

I've never bothered to heal pets (except when they belong to the warlock tanking).
A healers UI is generally pretty cluttered, there is no real point in having space saved for pet health bars.
but if its too much work to save my pet, then its too much work for me to save you.
Pet = small dps.
Healer = keeping you alive, giving the dps of the whole group.

I'll pipe in a "me too" here in that I don't have grid set to show pets, so the only heals that a pet is going to get is splash from Wild Growth.
And for God's sake, hunters learn to turn off your pet's growl. There's nothing more annoying to me when I'm tanking a heroic as when I see the three red lines appear over a mob's head and I know it's coming from a hunter's pet. You are just wasting your pet's resources. Stop being bad.

I'm kind of surprised at all of the healers here that completely ignore pets. Pets are a significant part of a hunter's DPS - and believe it or not, that's not just a personal e-peen thing for the hunter to be "on the charts." Having a hunter without a pet is like having someone of a different class that never uses one of his core abilities. Would anyone keep that person around?
Obviously pets should never be a priority and they're going to die in an instance. A lot. I'm never going to strain myself or put anyone else in danger to save a pet, but to say I just don't feel like paying attention to it?
Though on that note, pets are a two way street. If the hunter isn't controlling the pet and is just leaving it up to the AI to decide what to do... then yeah, I'm going to ignore it.

lol - I love the differeing of opinons on this topic.... as a hunter for my main, I don't even bother to heal my own pet... if he dies, and I have time after fight, I rez my pet. I only need my wolf for furious howl in the beginning, after that I do not care. My pet is about 10% of my dmg right now, and I would never expect a healer to heal him... if they do, great! If not, great! I sure as hell am not wasting mana on a heal, I wouldn't expect them too. Now, if it were a BM who needed pet healing done, they need to be watching this themselves, since most BM Hunter's rely heavily on pet for dmg - if not, I don't know what to tell them. They should be spamming their heals for pet durring boss fights and paying attention on their own, not relying on healers.

If your pet is dying faster than you can heal it with mend and smart-splash, you're failing at managing it.
If you can't control it, why should I heal it?
Edit: On the same token, I don't heal DPS that pull aggro either. We can finish the pull without you, and I'd rather you lose gold for being dumb.

It's not a big deal most of the time.
This is what I'm talking about. It's not a big deal. That's why I can't understand how someone with a nearly full 20k+ mana would rather just sit there instead of healing a pet out of principle...cause god forbid your .5 second cast heal on a pet causes the entire raid to wipe. If that is a major concern you may need to reexamine your ability as a healer.
You are one of those typical "blame the healer" people arent you. If you cant properly manage your pet then maybe you should roll another class

If the hunter is to idiotic not to take
this
then his pet doesn't deserve heals.
If he did take it, his pet doesn't need heals apart from mend pet and the random aoe heal that hits him.

However, some pug healers have tried to tell me they will not heal pets. In that case, if they pull aggro (no I don't force the issue with MD), I will not attempt to save them. Distracting shot then concussive shot, normaly will give the tank time to get the mob back, but if its too much work to save my pet, then its too much work for me to save you.
That's just silly. If your pet dies, the group goes on, but if your healer dies it will likely end in a wipe. You'd rather wipe the group just to make a point? Really?
I don't wanne whine but 90% of the groups I go with with my guild doesn't even have a healer in it...
