To conclude: imo, the new looting system has not levelled the playing field to make things fairer for classes who can only wear one armour type, and stop then from having items ninja'd, but given them the opportunity to they themselves ninja said item,
The opportunity was always there, to ninja something from their own armor class and outside. Cloth wearers could take anything up to plate, plate wearers could take anything below. The new system keeps cloth wearers rolling on cloth and plate wearers rolling on plate, which is a much needed function for a cross realm group system that probably makes ninjas more comfortable with ninjaing.
What you are proposing is that, while cloth wearers should still only be able to roll on cloth, higher armor classed should be allowed to roll on anything below their armor level (a big step backwards) simply because you have assigned a need where there probably isn't any.
If itemization at your armor level is such a big issue for you, have Blizzard fix that.

Blizzard has repeatedly said that using armour not suited specifically for your clas is a cop out. Whats the problem?
Play the game the way it is supposed to be played. If you are crying over an upgrade that was never meant to be an upgrade for you in the first place then...wow...
Did you even read any of the other posts in this thread? It has been said MANY a time before:
The best gear for some class specs is NOT always the highest armor level that they can wear.
Also, where has blizzard said "using armor not suited specifically for your class is a 'cop out'" ? Blue post plz?
Thanks for being ignorant.

The best gear for some class specs is NOT always the highest armor level that they can wear.
EJ's 3.1 Resto Druid BiS list
Half of that is cloth. If EJ had Holy Paladin and Boomkin sets up, I'd bet they wouldn't be all plate/leather either. To be honest, there'd be a piece or two of Rogue gear in the Ret paladin BiS, most likely.
I play a Holy Paladin, and I'm more or less in agreement with the changes Blizzard has made (though I like PessimiStick's idea a little better), but there's a lot of posts here suggesting there is something wrong with wearing items not of the highest possible armor class. That's completely wrong. A lot of the time items not of your own armor class are better than the ones that are. Along with Erethzium, I also doubt Blizzard has said anything to the effect of equipping lower armor-class items is a cop-out, but it doesn't even matter. Blizzard can say anything they want, but sometimes lower armor class items are better than the alternatives. The hyphenated phrases anyone uses to describe wearing these pieces don't change that fact.

The current system is the fairest way to go.
I'd say this except as a resto druid that often sees cloth armor drop when theres no casters in the group i begin to want to just log off. I can only greed on them and a lot of the time its simply DE'd. I would be in full 232 gear if not for this forced trade rules but alas i am still mostly in 219 and 200 gear >.>
This is one of the few times i REALLY wish blizzard would change something IMMEDIETELY that isn't a bug. Especially when theres no cloth wearers it really screws over people like me that don't necessarily need the couple hundred armor over the extra fifty spellpower and 30 spirit!
agree my resto / feral druid is tired of having good cloth drop and it get d/c because i cant roll need ...sometimes get the lucky group who will greed it for me and then trade it to me but thats only about two groups that have done that so far

You must be joking right? Tier gear? I hope I don't have to explain to you that that's a really really lousy example to bring in when we're discussing blues dropping from heroics, on several levels.
Secondly, the gear is intended for players to use to gear up to improve their performance in higher content. Which players?
The players that have the priority to take the gear based on the raid composition and rules.
If there's no resto shamans in the raid, I'd say that mail with mp5 on it was intended for us Holy paladins.
Thirdly, no one here has a concept of loot rules that might go MS>MS different armor class>OS>Shard. It seems the only loot rules anyone runs with are MS> Shards >>>>>>>>>>>>>> different armor class for whom the item is a huge upgrade = ress the boss and give it back. I never said I would take a cloth upgrade over a clothie who wanted it, but I like to think I'm more important to my guild than throwing an Abyss Crystal on the pile.
Goldfish insulted himself enough with the self-satire in his post, so I don't feel the need to reply to it any further.

My whole thing is that the gear is not INTENDED for you, sure it can be an upgrade, but the cloth items are meant for cloth wearers and cloth wearers only. If it was meant for you then
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=47780
would have druids and shamans next to warlocks in the class field, with their own Set Bonuses tweeked for their classes, but they don't they have leather and mail for that, armor they are supposed to be equipping. Or why not have cloth gear exclusively to Holy pallys or resto druids.
Bottom line is that it isn't made for you, sure you can equip it, but that's not the intention of the item. This idea isn't going away, and the more you guys attempt to come up with new ideas the more it is just going to hurt you more that this is to stay
oh this is the dumbest thing i head your trying to say a tier item is same as a drop from a dungeon...and yes if its a healing cloth set it can be intended for anyone who can use that healing piece....
sorry about re post
