'tis a little confusing.

I just mean Cambo. I've lost track of what he's talking about. He mentioned my name but I don't think he directly
referred to
addressed me at any point.

You know what, I've provided an ass-load of Bibilical references already.
And I just debunked it.
Now it's your turn. Show me where in the Bible it says "Lying is evil, no matter what."
Leviticus 6:1-4
Leviticus 19:11
Job 11:3-5
Psalms 101:7
Proverbs 6:16-19
Proverbs 12:22
Proverbs 14:5
Proverbs 19:5
Proverbs 19:9
Proverbs 19:22
Zephaniah 3:13
Zechariah 13:3
Zechariah 8:16
Malachi 2:6
Ephesians 4:25
Colossians 3:9
1 Timothy 4:2
Revelation 21:8
Revelation 21:27

I'm not even going to bother debating in this =P

I'm not even going to bother debating in this =PI think I'm going to leave too. HSR's unique talent for making me froth at the mouth is bad for my health.

"Okay. Here."
"Dammit, I'm leaving this thread."

I still don't get why you think my statement was confusing. You do know I'm a solid Roman Catholic, right?

Anyone reading that little sentence would come to the conclusion that you are somewhat on God's side.
Yes... I'm very much on his side. So why is it bad that my sentence implies that?
Not you Donny.
This quote pyramid is what confused me.

The big problem is usually that it makes it impossible for information to be reliable.
I knew someone who was emotionally fragile, so of course, everyone lied to her constantly to keep her from freaking out. I didn't. I just let her cry.
So one day, when she did something awesome and I said so, she was
utterly stunned
. Because, in her entire life, she'd never before gotten a compliment that she could reasonably believe meant anything.

Are you saying that emotionally fragile people very rarely do anything good?

I don't care if you're a cauliflower.
I had simply read into a simple statement from you, then later on saw that you had taken quite a different stand.
Anyway, we can blame Interest for this sliding into the religious debate yet again, and blame Orranis for mis-quoting me. Or was it HSR? Or Donny?

Only time I quoted you was that pyramid.

You are not lessening the confusion. Be quiet!

That's what's confusing. How is my stance any different than "anyone reading that little sentence would come to the conclusion that you are somewhat on God's side"? That's exactly the conclusion they're supposed to come to. Where did I "lay a trap" or "about-turn" my position?

Until morality can be shown to be objective - i.e., an impartial and knowledgeable third party exists that can and will render judgment on a situation - then I assume it to be subjective. Thus, the statement, "Why is lying immoral?" is inaccurate, because in a subjective morality, lying may
not
be immoral in all - or any - instances.

Nooooo i wanted to post this. Nothing better than a 6-page long argument about the relativity of morale.
Anyway, since morale is subjective, and the OP asks "Why is lying immoral?", which implies that he personally sees lying as something that is immoral, the ultimate answer to the question would be:
Because you think it is.
