It COULD be a good way to gauge readyness for certain fights yes, but just like resiliance and armor pen, its way to broken. My lock has a 2500 gearscore. I pull 5700dps regularly. I loose out raid spots in only VoA and Ony to guys with 2800 gear score, that pull around 4200dps. If you walk around bragging about a 6k Gearscore, I'd say your full of BS. Best geared lock on my server only alittle over 3kGS, and massive DPS on that guy.
Its understandable, higher itemlevel on your items means you've (possibly) seen and killed stuff to get it. But its easily manipulated, I'v already seen a pally use cloth armor/PvP gear to inflate his GS. It also doesnt take into account ANY class mechanics, as per what the guy was saying earlier. We locks cant pull much real DPS in a 5man cause stuff dies too fast, while pallys will have 5-7k DPS the entire run, even though we might be evenly geared. Boomkins seem to be affected by that highly negativly as well.
For that matter... seems most arent actually paying attention to the raids lately and what they actually require. 5500dps is fine to start out in the 1st wing of ICC, its not a cakewalk but your able to do it.
If a person is "Geared" can be figured out easily by looking at the main stats for whatever your bringing someone to a raid for, SP, crit and hit for casters. Strength/AP hit and crit for melee. Stam, Defense, Dodge/parry for tanks. If all else fails due to whatever reason... rightclick and inspect the person>.>

+1 vote to lock and possibly remove this and all other threads like it.
While it will stop both camps from expressing themselves, it's not going to solve the underlying issue at hand.

No, you will probably be banned if you keep trolling them. Please review the

I think that this really should not be made into another thread. Can't we make a Recycle Bin for rants such as these?

I have had just about enough of the endless threads about people QQing about gear score.
Agreed. Its been done to death. There are only two kinds of people whining about GS: Those too low geared to join a given raid (eg why cant i come to VoA in my greens?). And those who have been confronted with leaders asking for unreasonably high GS (eg LF2M Totc10 need GS over 5.2K). In the second case, just ignore these tools as we will always have them. And in the first case, go get some gear leech.

Have you ever tried equipping your prot warrior in high quality cloth gear? check his gs out :)
Gear score can, at best, be a VERY rough pointer to how someones gear is, in no way can it portray skill or knowledge. As a pugging raid leader you can ease your own pain of having to inspect the gear of every hopeful soul who hopes to enter by making a reasonable GS minimum. You will still have to personally inspect the people who enter to see if they understand how to gear for their role. Personally I don't like the system.
