when she solicited the minor she was on us soil, regardless of what canada considers a minor, if u break the law here in the states, youll get your due punishment.
Even if she traveled to a foreign country and met somebody under 18 for the first time who was legal in that country and struck up a friendship and decided to have sex with him, she would still be able to be prosecuted under U.S. law.
Puritans that we are, our government has a blanket age of consent law in effect that applies to ALL U.S. citizens traveling abroad. Anything under 18 is illegal, no matter what country you're in.
I'm going to disillusion you for a moment oedura. Doing things in a foreign country that are illegal here does not allow you to be punished when you return here. A fantastic example of this is consuming alcohol or doing drugs. If you were to go to Canada and you were under 21, but at least 18 then you could consume alcohol and do certain drugs that are illegal here. Now, when you return to the US you are not able to be punished for doing what you did, UNLESS you are still under the influence of alcohol or have traces of those drugs in your system. The same goes for sex essentially. If you go to another country and have a sexual relationship with someone who is of legal age there then you are in no trouble--if you met them there and did not coerce or convince them to leave parental/legal custody of an adult as happened with this young man.

This news article is either fake or written by a person with absolutely no sense of what the real world is. Trying to compare a love of video games to a crippling addiction is like saying the fact I love to eat pizza means I'm a space alien. Watch somebody being forced to detox in a hospital off cocaine and then try to tell me video games are a "crippling addiction."
/end rant
Anyway, to the rest of the post. It sure sounds like the mother was plenty aware of what was going on well before it got so out of hand. Frankly the mother should be charged as well and have her child taken to a safer home. I'm not normally the "call the authorities" person since I tend to always want to let parents have as many chances as possible (within reasonable safe limits for the child) but there were so many ways she could have cut this off.

the "boy" probably really liked her too, otherwise he wouldn't have kept in contact either, great how that internet thing works right? /ignore <3
i don't think it's fair for the woman to get all the blame, then again, i don't know her.
it's weird what people will resort to when confornted with lonelyness.
i just get annoyed that WoW also gets implemented once again.
loads more sexuallurkers on facebook and myspace, but i guess thats not news.
