You'll get the odd guy that leaves, don't worry about it. You just tell them that you're fresh out of normal dungeons and need them to adjust their pace after you. 22k is well enough to tank many of the heroics. I'd start out with the easiest ones though, Nexus, UK, AN.
But yes, like majinash I've had people saying you can't do this and this with that much hp. Right now I have around 32k hp, but when I first tried tanking the new ICC hc's (the first two), I had a couple of healers leave because of my healthpool of (then) 29-30k. Even overgeared healers who you'd think would have no problem getting even an undergeared tank through, but I've finished them numerous time with healers who are barely geared for the content.
The moral is, with teamwork you'll get through, the way it was supposed to get through. And that's just more fun than zerging...

Or you could grab a bunch of friends for a premade LFD, same bonus, forgiving group.
QFT. This is what I did when my Paladin first hit 80. I had a 4700+ GS(just an easy way to tell the amount of gear) Disco priest help me out in heroics. He got badges to make gold, I got badges to get my gear up. Only took a couple days before I could branch out on my own with more confidence, and I oddly stopped running into people questioning my health pool by the time I could hit 26k unbuffed. My biggest suggestion as you gear up using badges: Socket and enchant your gear as you go. The items that you get through badges will last you until you are done gearing up through heroics, and into ToC10/25 mans until you get some of the drops out of there. So take a little pride in the gear that you had to grind out through heroics, and hook it up, at least with Blue quality gems and the next lowest tier of enchants if you want to save some gold. It'll make you feel better about the gear, and will let people that actually check your gear see that you are at least making a conscious effort to make yourself as good as possible to make up for the lower end gear.

This is the truth, and I should have mentioned this as well. Nothing says "I'm just here to get carried through to better gear" than not caring to enchanting and gemming your gear. Not saying every enchant has to be the top notch one, but +8 stats to chest is a whole slew better than nothing. A blue gem, even a perfect green one, is so much better than an empty socket.

I recently decided to try out a tanking class (DK lol), and I have found my own set of things to rage about concerning LFD.
For one thing, I can't exclude dungeons. While I am defense capped and sitting on 31k HP, my gear is nowhere near good enough to be tanking PoS or HoR. In PoS, I can tank the first two bosses easily however simply the TRASH before Tyrannus is enough to make my health bar go from full to empty in 3 seconds... While if I had a phenomenal healer I could get through it, I obviously can't expect every random PUG to be wearing amazing gear and cover all the slack.
Then there is all the usual stuff, Resto Druids who don't use HoTs (!), Boomkins going single target crazy on an AoE pull and *!@#$ing when they pull aggro, idiots DPSing in frost presence, etc...

Yeah luckily with Paladin(maybe the other classes too, I haven't leveled any other tanking class), we have Righteous Defense to deal with the random DPS peels and DPS pulls. If they get aggro when you don't want them too, just pop Defense, and phoosh, the mobs turn right to you, and into your Consecrate. Just prey they take the note and stop their DPS for a second....Good luck with that part lol.

hell don't feel bad I have 51K hp on my bear and people tell me bears can't tank, ESPECIALLY with the new IC nerfs.
but yea I have a pally just like you, I can tank heroics but some are tough, and with a good healer and high dps group its easy, but with randoms its going to be a $%^&*. Healer is eating twinkies and telling everyone he has 5K gear score. OH SORRY MAN I was watching tv. DPS that can't do 2K on trash but can tell you how they blow thru toc25. YEA RIGHT.
If you want to get the emblems go for it, its going to be a little rough but with a good group it can be done.
if you have a super deps that wants to pull agro, tell them to tank and you will dps.
OH you can't tank you can't even hold agro..like a lock buddy of mine, I can tank toc in my sleep but NOT IF YOU INTERCEPT ......of course he did it on purpose ROFL
