Divine Favor
Divine Illumination
Aura Mastery
Divine Sacrifice
Avenging Wrath
Ok. so i've got these 5 nifty CD's that i've got access to as a holy paladin. talents taken from stickies.
my issue here, is when to use them? of the 4 listed, i only use two. DF as an oh feces button to get that guaranteed holy shock crit, and subsequent instant FoL, and divine sacrifice coupled with divine shield (both abbreviated as DS, oddly enough, DS^2?) used when the boss goes boom and aoes, or when i get hit and have already used HoP on some trigger happy dps.
at the moment, i'm at the stage where i'm shying away from raids in favor of 5mans to gear up my pally. (armory in profile) so idk when i'll be able to effectively use Divine illumination. can just drink for mana, and aura mastery has been sitting on my bars, untouched, since i hit 75 and started healing.
As for Avenging wrath, since the cooldown is 2.5 minutes, would it be wise to use it on every cooldown? or should i save it for when i need it... which really doesnt come very often thus far in my 5mans.
I know that these abilities have their uses in hard modes, raids, etc. but in preparation for them, i would like to get into the habit of using them, and not forgetting that i actually have them on my bars.

Experiment with them. You probably know what they do, so find a situation where it could be used (DI for HL spam while Black Knight in ToC AoEs, for example) and do it. Leaving buttons untouched is bad, and I hope you arent having problems using other Hand spells also (Freedom, Salvation, ...)
BTW its either DS/DG (if combined with tier 4 talent) or just DSac

AM is mostly used with res auras (and crusader ^_^) so no wounder you don't use it much. Use it when you need a breather (like on forge master in PoS turn on frost res, hit AM and watch debuff stacks drop).
You can macro DI and AW to one button if you forget to use em both. In raids you should use it every CD, and in 5-mans just do it when you will cast more than 6 heals in a row(if you have one of that 55k war tanks, let him drop to 15k and than hit CD and heal him up).

I've read that macro'ing Avenging Wrath with Divine Plea is a pretty common thing. It helps offset the healing reduction.
I've heard that if you are spamming holy light you barely feel it.

Don't forget HoSac, HoSalv, LoH, HoP, and HoF!
I really hate paladin spell names, I can never keep track.
Part of the problem is what you've mentioned. Unless something has gone wrong, you'll never really need most of those spells in old heroics.
The best thing to do would be to think about times when they might at least in theory help. Big spam phase on a heroic fight? Well it's so short you'll never run out of mana anyway, but pop Divine Illumination and see how much higher your mana is at the end of the fight.
Everyone's about to stand in Skadi's dragon's ice dealy, because they're dumb? Pop AM or DS, even though you could probably heal through it, and see how much easier healing through it is.
If you're good at what you're doing, which it sounds like you are, then you really don't need cooldowns in most five mans, but hopefully you can at least figure out how they'd be useful in content where you'd really need them.

Ty for all the help you guys. just did PoS for the first time last night, and was kinda excited at the fact that i could use Aura Mastery!

Lol. i agree with the name issue. it gets confusing for a holy newbie like myself.
I used to be a twink, so HoF is one of my favorite spells. and HoP I use quite often too. however, i dont think i even have Ho Salv or Sac on my bars... hmm..
does the damage taken from HoSac interrupt healing at all? and does it share cooldowns with any other hand spells?
Also,
My Pally
(tooltip says 72, but he's 80), any suggestions, constructive criticisms, or gear upgrades are more than welcome. :)

Well it's on the GCD, but otherwise there's no shared cooldown. I don't believe it interrupts casting but with spiritual focus I have to confess I don't even notice slowed casting when I know it's happening, such as when I get melee'd.
Your paladin mostly looks good, if slightly undergeared. I'm sure you know the hit rating on the gloves isn't terribly useful, but we've all used less than ideal pieces while gearing up. I used a DPS mace while leveling, because it had crit and haste and no base stats.
The socket bonus on your belt really isn't worth matching sockets for, and I'd recommend Tuskarr's Vitality as an enchant for your boots, but otherwise looks pretty good.

You need better trinkets, as I'm sure you know.
i do. i've been farming reg toc for the intellect trinket, and i'm going to hold off on using my emblems on the talisman of resurgence untill i get rid of some other blues i have, my cloak and shield mainly. my scribe has also been amassing herbs, pigment, and ink, just waiting on eternal life prices to drop, so i'm going to have a large number of cards coming in, hoping for DMC:G str, for ret. so hopefully i'll get a few pieces for illusion.
i'm still farming heroics, so i'm trying to see what i can get from them, and waiting to base what i use my emblems on off that.

the gloves had higher int, spellpower, and more crit than
handwraps of surrendered hope
had haste. still an upgrade, so yey me!
and as for the boots, i've got
Nitro Boosts
on them. i find the sudden burst of speed a little more useful than a slight movement speed boost. but i'm sure this will change once i get into raids.
as for the belt, i talked it over with a guild mate of mine and she recommended the gems i used. since i'm still new i still need all the sp and mp5 i can get my hands on, and i do need a blue socket for my meta. i dont think i'm at the gear level where i can just forego all the socket bonuses (boni?) and just stack pure int.

Aaah I was confused. The wowhead profiler shows Nitro Boosts as just 24 crit rating, which on its own would be substandard. What you have is fine then.
Your gems are actually fine, I'm just used to seeing people use a prismatic to activate their meta. One green and one orange also works (actually you're using the two gems I recommend as an alternative to a prismatic in my guide, so that's a fail on my part).
