Hi, I have a level 31 disc priest, and came up with a question that I can't figure out.
Normally healers heal damage, whereas
http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=48066 prevents damage.
At first sight this looks to be similar thing, but that's what I don't get.
Lets say your tank has 50% damage reduction, and your shield absorbs 100 damage. Lets say a mob hits the tank for 600 damage before damage reduction. Will the tank take 250 damage ((600 damage - 100 absorbed) * 50% = 250)
Or will the tank take 200 damage (600 * 50% - 100 = 200)
I believe that the tank will take 250 damage.
If that is true, that means that damage-reduction from gear isn't as important to a disc priest as it is to a druid tree or a paladin healer. Following that theory, than it makes sense to put
http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=48066 on dps as well, and have them grab a mob - as damage reduction from gear is irrelevant unless the shield is broken before he can be reshielded.
This is where I'm coming from. I find it that if dps grabs mobs, it's way easier for me to heal the group than if the tank has all the mobs beating on him. I realize - even if true - this is just because I'm level 31, and by 80 mobs will burn through dps'rs shield and kill them before I have a chance to heal - so it won't work. But for now ... it seems its better to have all dpsers split agro, than 1 tank grab all agro.
