Yet another "Improving FPS" thread.

Yep. Was wondering how I could improve FPS further, seeing as my PC specs are quite well. It's a Gateway PC, and on the comments for it, multiple people were saying they play WoW on "Ultra" graphics settings, and get over 40 fps in 25-man raids. I'm on "Good" graphics settings, and can't seem to get over 30 fps in 25-man raids...If I set it to "Ultra", I can't seem to get more than 20 FPS except in deserted places. (Basically, where there aren't a lot of people or models/effects.)
Basic specs:
8192MB 800MHz DDR2 Dual Channel Memory (4 x 2048MB Modules)
Intel® Core™2 Quad Processor Q82001 (2.33GHz, 1333MHz FSB, 4MB L2 cache)
NVIDIA® GeForce® GT120 Graphics with 1GB DDR2 Total Video Memory
Full details on specs.
As far as I know, it's not "overclocked".
Yes, I set Config.WTF to use all four processor cores. It was like that by default.

Yes, Windows 7 Ultimate (64-Bit)

Quad-core CPU is good but a default speed of 2.3Ghz isn't all that fast. I overclocked my CPU to 3.2Ghz and performance improved quite a bit. The video card is equal to a 9500GT which isn't one of the higher end cards.
You'd be better off with less memory, more CPU speed and a better video card. Also, make sure you turn down the shadow video setting, that kills performance.

Well the computer isn't really a "higher end" computer, only costing me $680 =P It definitely kicks the crap out of my MacBook, though.
Also, how do I overclock my CPU? Is it dangerous? I could always just get a better quad-core CPU, or even an 8-core(If I can even do that), because I've currently got a lot of cash on me. xP

I bought the computer prebuilt from Gateway, and according to my father (Master's degree in computer science), you can never have enough RAM.
Also, I'm really confused as to how I'm supposed to know which video cards are better than others. Only a few of them will say how much VRAM they have, and I don't know how to tell "NVIDIA GT120" from something like "AT RADEON HD 9001".

I tried setting the graphics to "Ultra" in SW's Trade District, and my FPS dropped from 60-65, down to 20-25, no matter where I went (outdoors). Turned shadow quality to 0, and BAM, fps went back up to 60 again. I guess Shadow Quality really does eat up FPS.
I talked to another techie friend in my guild, and he said that, based on my PC specs, that it'd be best for me to overclock my RAM. Should I try that?

I don't see the point in just overclocking your RAM, I would overclock the CPU which will also OC the memory since you'll be increasing the bus speed.
Is overclocking dangerous? It can be, it can ruin the CPU, the memory, hard drives, etc. If it's a Gateway PC chances are you won't have any OC options in the BIOS which makes it more difficult if not impossible to OC the CPU and RAM.
Just keep the shadows turned down and play around with the video settings until you find a point where you're happy with the visuals and the performance.

Yeah, went into the BIOS and there were no options to change CPU speed, voltage, or any of that stuff that I saw in the Overclocking guide. Guess overclocking is out of the question =/
I'll see if I can get that processor I was looking at. (An Intel i7 with some "turbo" thing, 2.8GHz quad-core.)
Reason I wanna get better performance is because I record videos for my guild, and while recording, my FPS never goes above 15. While not recording, it's always healthily above or around 30, though. (This is in 25man content.)
