Tried MM last night, not there yet.

I generally pull about 3k to 4k in 5 mans as Surv.
Gear
is still work in progress but I'm getting there (common drops).
I tried out MM last night and only got to around 2.2~2.5k dps. I'm completely new to the rotation or priority list for MM. I decided to use the
7/57/7
spec in the 3.3 Endgame sticky above with the priority list: KS > SilShot > SerpSting > CS > AS > A/MS > Steady Shot. What I keep running into is the following situation.
Mobs die too fast in 5 man regulars for MM to have a chance for its dots to tick. Perhaps I might have more luck in heroic 5 mans where mobs have more health. Single target attacking feels like I have less shots as Chimera shot is on a 10 sec CD where Explosive shot is 6 seconds. Is this where Arcane comes in, and/or more steady shot useage? Am I missing something in the priority list?
And I know my armor pen is low, real low. But can MM even perform somewhat decent without 500+ Armor Pen? What Armor Pen passive level do you switch? Do I have to Gem Armor Pen to get there or can I still stack Agi?

Few things.
I forgot to mention that my trinkets will eventually be the
Needle
and
Greatness Card
. I plan to have ~300 Arm Pen ungem'ed or around 460 Arm Pen fuly gem'ed.
I mainly run 5 mans atm, with no real plans to raid on this alt. That being said my plan is for 2 set T9 and 2 set T10 (frost) bonuses. Does MM truely show it's strength in a raid situation where mobs take longer than 20 seconds to die? I just want to see if MM has a place in 5 mans or not, or if it's possible to achieve higher dps in 5 mans as MM with non raid gear.
I generally don't use a dummy as a reference as you are missing a lot of factors vs when you are in a group. I mean in the end it doesn't matter since I'm dual spec with Surv and MM, but I generally like to min/max my guy. If that means re-geming and re-prioritizing my gear and stats for Arm Pen and using MM for 5 mans that's something I would do. Does it matter in the long end since I'm not raiding on this toon, no.
I'm planning a full Shield Block Value set for my other alt paladin that's starting to tank atm. Being able to block almost all attacks fully on heroic trash and taking minimal damage on bosses could speed up the farming process (multi pull packs of trash). In the end it doesn't matter, who cares, its just 5 mans, not progression raidin, etc . . . but more dps leads to faster runs which leads to better things for everyone.

MM and SV are both great for exceptional DPS.
The debate of whether or not you need a certain amount of ArP before switching over is bollocks imo. MM works perfectly well when gemming for pure agi / deadly ametrine gems.
The only time that ArP should come into it, is when you decide to start taking Arcane Shot out of your rotation and when to respec to take it out of your talents (around 400 or so ArP is a good number).
Once you start to get up to the higher levels of gear, and start to get higher levels of ArP you will start to notice a significant increase in your dps. I regemmed to ArP when I hit 800 passive, and I haven't looked back since.
It works fantastically for PvE (huge crits on Chimera, Aimed and Kill Shot are just awesome) and works extremely well in your average BG as well.
I personally find MM to be a lot more fun then SV. I love SV, I was SV for ages, however MM for me is just full of awesomeness.
All I can really say, is pick what works for you. Find the spec that you enjoy the most, get to know the priority system and when to pop CD's and you will find yourself doing rather impressive dps.

How are target dummies fail as MM?
I get a constant 6.4k+ on a dummy, the highest I have seen is just under 8k (self buffed with procs, I have a screen shot to prove). I regulary go shoot the dummy by myself, just out of fun to see what I can do, and only on the rare occasion do I sit below 6k maintained dps.
It is only once you stop attacking, and your dots start to tick over by themselves that your dps will start to drop, it is amazing how you can drop 1k or more dps when you stop attacking and it is just your dots that are ticking over.

.
WTF are u wearing t-15-6?
8k on a test dummy with self buffs is NOT FEASIBLE
6.4K you might be able to pull off if you're decked out in ALL crazy ICC25man gear.
Nevertheless, I smell BS.
You guys need to be honest with your stats... srsly.
Says the person who gems for +mana 5s and is below the hit cap? I suppose you think that 10k dps is impossible in a 10 or 25 ICC run?

It was a peak, I never said it was sustained.

Lol!
I have hit 6.4k constant many a time. It really is not hard.
23k AoE on trash is not hard either, it's trash, lay an explosive trap and volley - instant 20k+.
Just because you have not done it yourself, does not mean it is not possible. I have guildies sit there and watch, and all can confirm that I hit that, they even do themselves, usually sitting at a 6.1k.
With your ranged and melee weapon especially, not including your gems, I can understand why you can't see those numbers on a dummy. Upgrade your trinkets as well, then go test it, and you will see the results for yourself.
I am positive that other hunters here can say without a doubt that they hit 6.2k or higher consistent dps on a dummy. Those hunters are more then likely keeping a steady 8k+ on a boss fight as well.
Hit rating is solved by 3 points in FA + a Dranei in my group. Do some proper research before you flame please.
