the armor vs avoidance argument is no different for BQL than any other boss - i prefer armor almost every time.
the OT takes a lot of damage - actually slightly more than the MT in our runs for some reason. the OT doesn't seem to be able to mitigate any of the damage himself, so go pure HP for the OT. i've been MT because i have more armor and our pally OT's because he has a larger health pool.

You *can have a melee dps to soak it up, but it will be a lot of damage, and they will probably have to use tank gear as well. Anyone doing the shadowmourne quest will need to have blood mirror applied to them(at least briefly) as well, so its definitely doable.
As far as the armor/hp, im not sure of that, its been a while since i was prot.

Armor is good if you are the MT, OT cannot reduce the damage taken from Blood Mirror (like Shield Wall will not reduce the damage). Once trick you could do is tank swap, use cooldowns, then swap back.

Blood Queen will cast Delirious Slash on the Offtank. When I was offtanking it would hit me for an average of 10k damage and it also applies a bleed. This 10k hit I was taking is the only direct damage the offtank takes, and thus would be the only damage affected by armor (and I assume it could crit). I don't think it would be a good idea to have a DPS try and offtank. The offtank takes just as much damage as the main tank, so the offtank should have normal tank-like health.
I am going to look into what kind of shadow resistance I can get and throw it into some off-pieces of gear. About 90% of the damage I was taking as OT was Shadow damage.

you might find it ineffective.
i was looking over our logs and the OT had almost no mitigation of anything she did - 1.7% shadow mitigation and 1.9% physical mitigation, and that little bit might have been the disc shields that wowmeteronline was counting. my numbers were normal.
i'm thinking pure stam for the OT at this point.

I dunno. I'm having a hard time determining what resistances show as in WoL. I know I've seen some shadow resistance things pop up in my combat log. I'll have to pay closer attention.
