Alright, well let's give this a try. This thread is about our favorite faction leaders and heroes; where as the title states, we talk about what makes them Good, what makes the Bad, and what makes them 'Ugly'. This will hopefully become a discussion or debate thread without transforming into a flame fest; so, standard rules for the threads: Do not insult other users, do not direct comments at them, stay on task and focused about what your writing. I'll start it off heh.
Varian Wrynn:
The Good:
King of Stormwind, leader of the southern humans, the man who is trying to keep his kingdom safe from harm... whatever that harm may be. A student of King Llane, King Terenas, and Lothar, Varian tries to follow in their footsteps and keep his people alive and well. He is passionate about things, and does believe in the Light. He knows that things the past have occurred and he tries to make up for them.
The Bad:
Well it is true that Varian is slowly changing in his views, for the most part he still has his hatred and desire for revenge against the Orcs... even if the Orcs he hates are actually the Dark Horde and not Thrall's. Wrynn also has the standard human belief that he and his are above the other races, but many races have that.
The Ugly:
His desires to kill both Thrall and Garona, as well as wipe out all Forsaken, even if they had nothing to do with the Wrathgate, are ugly sides.. though, I do sorta agree with his belief on the undead race.
Orgrim Doomhammer
The Good:
One of the few uncorrupted orcs of the Blackrock clan, best friend of Durotan and Draka, mentor to Thrall and respect by Grom Hellscream, Doomhammer was one of the most honourable orcs who have ever lived. He destroyed the Shadow Council and killed Warchief Blackhand, starting the Orcs on the path to redemption, and gave his life trying to free his people.
The Bad:
Kept his people moving north after the humans of Stormwind, continued to wage the war and tried to destroy Lordaeron. He also gave Zuluhed the Whacked permission to go hunting for the Demon Soul, which gave the Horde control of the Red Flight for a time, allowing more death and destruction to occur.
The Ugly:
Beaten down by Turaylon, forced to live in hiding for almost 20 years, then died to a coward blow trying to save his people.

Nice, I like the way its a neutral perspective (mostly.) Will we be seeing more lore characters?

Sylvanas Windrunner:
The Good
:
Her desire to destroy those who would cause suffering, namely the Lich King.
The Bad
:
Where her revenge might take her after he's dead could be very very troubling.
The Ugly
:
Her cold calculating look upon what she does. The ends justify the means, but at what point do the means become more violent then the ends would prevent?

I just reread it and facepalmed...
King Magni Bronzebeard
:
The Good: Protector of the Dwarves, doesn't go needlessly to war, but will protect his people at all costs.
The Bad: Doesn't believe he is the best King for his people, will never be friends with Wildhammers or Dark Irons.
The Ugly: His daughter married the Dark Iron King and has his child, who is Half Bronzebeard and half Dark Iron.

Garrosh Hellscream
:
The Good
: Son of Grom Hellscream, an honorable warrior, and tries to live up to his father's name.
The Bad
: Hot headed, reckless.
The Ugly
: Sees violence as the best and only option in most situations, including diplomatic ones.

Grom Hellscream
:
The Good
:
Saved the Horde after it's demonic corruption.
The Bad
:
Was a major reason why they were corrupted in the first place.
The Ugly
:
Often sees violence as the only way, even if it means hurting his own people. Has a very one sided look at things.

Warchief Thrall:
The Good:
Led the Orcish people to prosperity while only waging war when absolutely necessary. He brought shamanism back to the Horde, and led the Orcish people into a new way of life.
The Bad:
He's become a little indecisive and he doesn't seem to be heavy-handed enough when it comes to controlling his commanders.
The Ugly:
He failed in his job, and as a result, the Wrathgate happened. Many people might not agree with this, but Thrall is just as much to blame for the Wrathgate because the Blight was used.

I've always thought Varian and Orgrim are quite similar.
Thrall (Go'el, son of Durotan)
The Good:
Thrall helped save his people from destruction, brought the Tauren, Darkspear, Forsaken, and Blood Elves into the Horde. Helped kill Mannoroth. Established peace with Theramore. Fights to keep the peace and bring the Horde back to its spiritual past.
The Bad:
Can be to trusting at times, and sometimes takes too long to address problems within the Horde.
The Ugly:
Allowed the Forsaken to have a Dreadlord as their second in command, and thus permitted the Wrathgate to happen.
Edit: DAMMIT HI!

Garrosh Hellscream:
The Good:
He seems to be very passionate about the Orcish people's place in the world. He seems to want the best for the Horde and will do anything to achieve that for them.
The Bad:
He values strength above all else. This leads him to make rash and unwise decisions. He also hates the Alliance with a passion.
The Ugly:
His mood changed drastically between the Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King, with almost no explanation as to why the drastic shift occurred.

There's a lot of Dammit going on in this thread.
Sargeras
:
The Good
:
Was the first hand of the Pantheon, and destroyed or imprisoned countless demons of the Burning legion.
The Bad
:
Well, he did kind of get corrupted into the most powerful and inconceivably evil being in the world, the reason for all bad things (Excluding Old Gods) on Azeroth...
Edit: Well excluding some of the lesser conflicts, like the Night Elf vs. Trolls.
The most promising and powerful being in the Universe, also the most opposed to Demons, can still be corrupted. Not a good sign.
The Ugly
The most powerful and demon hating being in the entire universe can be corrupted. Scary.

Vol'Jin
The Good:
He's been one of Thrall's advisors and the leader of the Darkspear Trolls since Sen'Jin handed over the the position before the Horde made landfall on Kalimdor. He's led his dwindled people through perhaps the best point in the entirety of their existence on Azeroth.
The Bad:
He doesn't do anything.
The Ugly:
I repeat, he doesn't do ANYTHING.

Velen the Prophet
The Good:
Has led his people for 25 thousand years, doing his best to keep them alive and well. Made allies of the Naaru, defied Sargeras, and is trying his best to form the Army of Light to help stop the Legion once and for all. Is attempting to get his people to forgive the orcs for what they did in the past, but doesn't except everyone to be happy about it. Was willing to let Nobundo speak and learned about the elements to add the shamans to the Draenei forces.
The Bad:
Not technically his fault but.... due to fleeing the Legion, led their forces to multiple worlds that were either devoured by the hellish force, or had the natives corrupted and added into the Legion; the finale of this being the orcs on Draenor.
The Ugly:
Like all Draenei, treated the orcs less like true allies and more like children they attempted to shelter and protect, helping them when they could but for the most part leaving them in peace. Also, after the 'War' was declared, tried to lead a group to Oshu'gun to speak with K'ure about his health, and spoke freely instead of trying to phrase it in a way that Durotan would understand; making the Frostwolves start to believe the lies of the Shadow Council for a time.
AHEM!
:P

High Tinkerer Gelbin Mekkatorque
The good: He is a great leader around which the gnomish people can currently rely in there time of need. credited with helping to build the deeprun tram.
The bad: He was ill-prepared for the trogg attack. He took advice without thinking about what the consquences might be. And he really hasn't done to much to actually try and retake the city, he just kind of plans and takes no action.
The Ugly: He made a hugely rash decision in using the toxic radiation to try and stop the troggs.

I'll do 2, although most have already done Thrall:
Thrall:
The Good: He lead his people to salvation when they were so lost and disbanded, he brought them together again, gave them straight to fight, helped them rediscover there shamanistic past, and let them fight both the alliance who wanted to enslave them, and the legion that corrupted them. Pretty much made orcs into heroes because of him.
The Bad: He being raised by humans sometimes has him underestimate his own peoples want for fighting and killing. He trys to keep things at there calmest, but leading a warrior race something even he finds differcult to maintain.
The Ugly: He let the forsaken have to much liberty, he let them become allies to the horde without overseeing what they were doing.
Frankly, the same can be said for all horde leaders and those of the horde who didn't report what they saw in undercity to Thrall, so really it wasn't just Thralls fault, ppl need to get over that
Durotan:
The Good: Even when he saw the corruption of those around him, and the prospect of his clan becoming stronger, he forced his clan not to drink from the chalice of rebirth, and ultimately saved them from being utterly corrupted.
The Bad: He followed through with his clansmen when the slaughter of the draenei started, questioning it, but still following them
The Ugly: Seeing his brown skin peal off to the green underneath, knowing the changing of the world around them and the use of warlock magics is what caused it.
