Ok, let's remember some things about Bolvar.
1- He rulled a newly rebuilt kingdon with a disguised dragon at his side.
2- He was spanked by that dragon when she revealed herself
3- Was sent to Northrend with a simple task: destroy the Lich King in a "300 of sparta" style.
4- Was bombed by hundreds of plague barrels.
5- Was burned alive by the Red Dragons.
6- Was tortured by the Lich King.
7- Now he is sacrificing himself for the "greater good".
Seriously. The guy is a hero.
Edit: typo

I liked it, but it's been done. I assumed a shattered Frostmoure means the souls are free... I cannot count how many quests I've done where I was either trapping something in a crystal/relic or freeing something from a crystal/relic.
There always being a Lich King is a neat twist.. but DEEP down.. I'm hoping for a third faction... in a future expansion..
yeah I thought that too.. about the frostmourne souls been freed thing.
And hey, the frostmourne is shattered, but the ashbringer (which as it turns out is a one hander) is still unbroken.

First off let me just say I'm tickled at how personal Adamsm is taking this and how angry he's getting. I have nothing against you, Adam, but...come on...it's a story line of a video game...
Anyway, I agree with what most people are saying, it's an entertaining little video, but wholly disappointing. I really thought they couldn't botch up the whole "WHOA LOOK AT
THIS
BADASS BAD GUY WHOOOOAAA WATCH OUT!" thing more than they did with Illidan, but the Lich King story is just weak. Yeah, we encounter him a lot, but there's
never
any sense of fear or imposing death. Only
once
twice
does the Lich King actually do anything about being four feet away from you (kill you/try to kill you) and it's
only
for Alliance who quest through Howling Fjord
EDIT:
or people questing through Icecrown TEN LEVELS LATER. All other times he seems to be a fan of the Lex Luther method of "I'll get you next time! /shakefist" more than anything else, which is annoying. Am I the only one who isn't getting sucked up into this "We shall finally kill the Lich King...he shall finally fall..." malarky? I've had no real reason to see this guy as nothing more than another boss in another raid. His fight mechanics might be hard, but lore-wise, I feel no sense of urgency when discussing his death.
About the cinematic itself, I'm mostly disappointed by Bolvar's appearance. It seems that this is the first time you see him and their only explanation as to why
he's made of fire
is him vaguely referencing being burned by the red dragons, which doesn't make any sense, when you really think about it. The red dragons purged the ground at the Wrath Gate to burn the bodies and keep them from being able to be resurrected by the Lich King. Buuuut apparently it did the exact opposite for Bolvar? Or he was burned THEN the Scourge nabbed him? If that was the case, what was the whole point of the burning? And why, exactly, did Putress' plague kill everyone but him? It's go so many plot holes you could paint it yellow and sell it as cheese.
I hope they have more up their sleeve instead of "WHOOP BOLVAR IS EBIL NAO LOL" for future expansions, but I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I'm just teasing ya. I know what you mean, but I don't think it was a cop out, which I guess makes me a little bit more disappointed in Blizzard, since I think this was what they planned to do all along.
I mean no writer at Blizzard can honestly look at the Lich King storyline as a whole and say it's strong and holds through.

I wouldn't go that far; WC3/TFT/Rise of the Lich King set it up perfectly..... then Wrath ruined it. But meh, whatever, this next 'king' won't be the same threat in all honesty, he just has the helmet, no armour or Sword, so let Blizzard use it as the 'setback' at some period in the future, maybe as a 5-man dungeon.

I facepalmed through reading this... All the questions are answered... First off, in the Howling Fjord quest, he does kill you, but "Lol corpserunning" fixes that. The red dragons burn the area to prevent the plague from spreading, and by destroying the undeath.
Red Dragons flames are known to bring life and flowers (hence thier appearence in the red dragonshrine, and the Wrathgate). Bolvar wasnt very corrupted by the time the plague got to him, so the flames basically scortched his body, but prevented him from dying. Later on, the lich king went "LOLDEATHGRIPZ" and pulled him back to Icecrown Citadel, where he was tortured, and put in is current state today...
I facepalmed through reading yours as well. I know he kills you in the Howling Fjord quest that's why I said that he kills you. He only does it once, which is lame. In all the other encounters with him through various quests he spits out some lame excuse as to why he won't kill you "just yet". Plz read posts before bashing them.
Your flame argument has some credence, but why is Bolvar the only one who was brought back to life? Why was he less corrupted than all the others who died at the Wrath Gate? Coincidence? Lucky that.
I wouldn't go that far; WC3/TFT/Rise of the Lich King set it up perfectly..... then Wrath ruined it.
That's why I said "as a whole". The storyline begins as a really compelling tale of a princes fall from grace. But it just kind of all falls apart at the end.

Damn . Arthas was my favorite character. I really didnt want to see him die .I know this is going to sound really nerdy but im kinda sad that he did even though its only a game , knowing that he wont be in the story anymore.

I doubt they'll make another Scourge Expansion. There is so much more to explore.
If Blizz revisits the Scourge and Bolvar at all, they'll probably make them a neutral force in the final battles ahead.
And again; am I really the only one who liked the cinematic? Am I the only one who is not complaining at how much of a mess the story was (not much a mess...)
This is Blizzard, kings of "It was all a Setback!", but meh, I preferred the Kil'jaeden/Velen thing at the end of Sunwell to this... it's just not epic, more of a 'Finally!... Wait what? You mean the Scourge isn't dealt with....ah MAN!' type thing.
