Since 3.3 you really only take it for Divine Guardian. As a tank, you'll want to set up a /cancelaura macro so that you can get the raid wide 20% mitigation without blowing yourself up with Divine Sacrifice.
I'm not as familiar with all the intricacies of prot specs as I am with ret or holy, but if you can take three points out of what you have without giving up personal survivability or too much aggro, Divine Guardian is a pretty nice raid damage cooldown.

It's definitely worth it for the tank to have this. Perfect examples would be Festergut and Blood Queen (flight phase). I, like pezz, don't know the intricacies of it all, but you can look up Ticklefist or Shockadin on Spinebreaker. They're both in my guild, and I'm pretty sure they both have Divine Guardian.
As a side note, your Sacred Shield also absorbs more and lasts longer. We use our Sacred Shields on mages for IA absorbs to keep the SP rolling in coordination with PW:S, so it would also help for this cause.

Of course, if you have a holy paladin healing you, please don't keep overwriting our SS with yours.

Don't SS from different paladins stack? I remember reading it in the 3.2 (i think) patch notes, did they change it back?

You do not only take it for the raid damage cooldown, but also as a personal 3rd cooldown.
Being specced into divine guardian, if you use a cancelaura macro to remove the damage absorb portion(the actual divine sac) of the spell, you can get 6 seconds of -20% damage done, not only to you but the whole raid, whithout taking any consequential damage.
This is the prime reason to be specced into DivGuardian, if you are doing any form of ICC, as there are times where either a raid damage reduction or tank damage reduction is invaluable. For ex, rotface around 30% when it gets hectic, or festergut 3rd inhale, putricide 3rd phase, etc.

No, Sacred Shields do not stack.

I tested SS with two paladins, and can confirm that it now stacks.

To be honest, Sacred Shield stacking in 3.1 is even better than the old multi-target Sacred Shield.
Indicates that SS does stack from different paladins, and I don't see anything in the patch notes that say otherwise. Granted, I can't confirm this as I don't raid anymore and don't have access to a second paladin at the moment

Sacred Shield: This buff will no longer have any effect if the target is another player engaged in a duel. In addition, the heal from this buff will no longer cause the paladin to stand, and it is no longer possible for two paladins to both have the spell active on one target.

I can 100% guarantee that Sacred Shields
do not
stack.

Alright, my apologies; guess I didn't read the note closely enough. Sorry for the disruption.
