Looking to Gather Armory Data

I just spoke with Malgayne via email who gave me permission to post this.
I'm currently developing an Armory parsing site and am in data-gathering mode. I've parsed roughly 45,000 profiles and am shooting for 100,000 to have enough data for my next set of features.
For those of you interested, could you head over to the website and enter your own characters and/or your entire guild profile? Nothing personal is stored and there are no advertisements or other things people might object to. This is strictly for fun and to learn new things about the WoW community - I will not derive any financial benefit from this.
Thanks!

I really like the advanced search. If you can put in profession they have in there it'd be even better(just a suggestion =) )
Interesting... I'll be sure to add that in the near future. :)

Just another call for help getting data into the site... I've hit the 60,000 mark now and am hoping to hit 100,000 in the next couple of days. A big thank you to everyone who has helped so far!

Wow, over 80k now. Thanks everyone. I've begun adding new features and some interesting stats. Even with less than 1% of the world population parsed, there are already some interesting bits of data coming out.
Consider gear distribution.... this graph shows exponential growth between quest gear and i232 gear which goes to show Blizzard really is handing out the new badge gear like candy. However, beyond that, there is a steep linear decline between i232 and ICC gear. That also demonstrates that gear beyond 232 isn't coming that quickly or easily. So much for 'WoW is EZ Mode!'.

While I admire what you're doing, be careful by saying that your data means something, especially when you have such a small percentage of the population. I doubt you have a representative sample, and it may in fact be skewed towards (a) particular segment(s) of the WoW population. I'd love to see the stats you were talking about when you have something like a million (or better, 5 or 6 million) profiles - still won't be the best, but it'll give a better picture of the overall population.
No, you're completely correct and I know. I've currently parsed less than 0.5% of the available population and I know things are far from representative because a lot of people have searched the celebrity guilds like Ensidia - which skews the data a bit towards the hardcore side. I have figured out a way to automatically parse many guilds at once which will help get a lot of data into the site quicker, so I'm continuing to watch and see how things pan out.

Oh, and I'd also like to point out the beautiful Gaussian bell curve of achievement point distribution.

Edit: i just thought of another idea, Discolando. If you were to contact Boubouille to try and get this on the front page, you may have even more success.
While I appreciate the sentiment, I'd prefer to avoid MMO-Champion. For every reason that I like Wowhead - people here are typically considerate, intelligent, and creative - MMO-Champion is usually the exact opposite. :P
Am I reading that one right about level 80 characters, that only 38% of toons are level 80? If so that's a lot lower than I would have thought.
Yes, you're reading that correctly. Be mindful, because as it's been pointed out already there isn't really enough data to come to any kind of meaningful conclusion yet.

Mind if I make a couple of suggestions?
If you added a Meta Level range option into the Advanced Search, that would be handy. I find it difficult to compare members of the same class/level on the armory because the search functionality just isn't there. This will help narrow down the information.
With the parsing, are you able to look at the statistics and pull out specific data about that? The reason I ask is because being able to pull out specific data/statistics about Battlegrounds may help to solve some of the discussions in Battleground forums about who wins what. Currently the only data available relies on uploads. Although this would still be the same in principle, it is taking historical data without actually requiring anything to be specifically uploaded from the user.
Just ideas - not sure if they are achievable or not :)

Not at all!

That would be simple. Would you want to search for something like 'Combat Rogues with a Meta Level between 84 and 85'? That would give you rogues with mostly ToC gear.

When you say statistics do you mean Health/Mana/Agility/Strength/etc? I'm not currently saving any of that data but it's in the works. I originally developed the site just to experiment with the 'Meta Level' concept but I've got additional features in the pipeline.

Exactly - something like From Meta Level XX.XX to Meta Level XX.XX where the user can enter the XX values.

If you look at the armory, you have a statistics section. This section includes various information like flight paths used, number of kills, times lol'd etc. One of the sub sections in statistics is PvP. It has a list of Battleground statistics for each player. If we can collate this information it might go a way to providing some good Battleground/Battlegroup stats.
