I'm not 80 yet on the priest, but there's some merit to this.
Shadow Word: Pain lasts for 18 seconds, with the final tick occuring at the 18 second mark. The trinket proc lasts for 10 seconds. I don't see a reason why you couldn't throw it up roughly twice a minute for the 180 SP. As long as mana isn't an issue for you, give it a try. If your worried about low SP (doesn't sound like it), then get Purified Lunar Dust since it gives 179 SP now + 912 mana every minute.

YES, it does continue to stack per tick of damage.
I still think that this trinket is NOT one that you will want to use as disco though because it will be difficult to continue to keep it up (in later-game raiding) throughout a boss fight. Those GCD's are precious man and I don't think that the SW:P is an efficient use of them.
If you're doing heroics, then fine, I guess.

Yeah out of the box is out of the question in this case. Reason we're talking about DoTs is because you can "set it and forget it". Not so easy with the other spells mentioned.

I won't change my healing tactics for a trinket. Oh, and good luck running up to a boss, hitting your holy nova several times and running back.
Again, if you're in a heroic, big deal. Go up to them and do whatever the hell you want. If you're in a raid boss fight, I would rather DoT. REGARDLESS, I'm not a fan of the trinket for healing period. Just my opinion.

I got this the other day for my shadow spec aswell. Actually sometimes i do switch it out for sliver, but only on farmbosses(presuming im already not asked to go shadow on them , which i usualy am tbh) I'd never dream about doing it on a boss not on farm however.(damn LK! die already, you haz my staff!)
Usualy running with abascus + sliver / talisman (also didnt get solace.. yet). Still trying to farm broodmother to switch out with sliver though.
*edit* well after checking dots do refresh and add stacks according to comments on this trinket, I would still say keep the sliver because in a raid you may not have the chance to cast a spell on the boss while healing, and there's also a 17%(14% with misery or imp faerie fire) that your spell will miss and you'll have to spend more mana to keep the stacks up.
Angelofpain clearly states why you shouldnt use it on progressbosses here. not really about the mana, mostly about the fact that I dont trust that i can keep it up all the time, if i loose the whole stack it takes a bit of time to stack up those 10 stacks again. Incase #$%^t happens and somebody takes alot of damage or something else which causes me to not be able to keep the buff up.

nova is instant, thus can be used while moving....if you position yourself next to the tanks, (instead of with the ranged) you can then have the effects that he described....... otherwise yes, if three mobs, it would take 4 Holy novas to get 10 stacks..... but seriously, a mage blizzard is SUCH a better application of that proc abuse....

And all the cleaves too!
In the situations where you need the spyglass, i.e. Boss fights, there arent multiple targets to build the proc on quickly, nor can you afford the luxury of wasting a GCD every 10 seconds for perpetuating the buff.
Whereas a DoT takes 1 GCD every half minute to perpetuate it, and can be refreshed WHEN YOU HAVE TIME, whereas HN would need to be cast to perpetuate the buff duration, not the DoT duration.
HN works great for Trash, but then, so does facerolling.

Everyone's talking as if dots are the only thing that can stack it...COME ON!
Hello! Holy Nova. Oh that's right, it can count as SPELL DAMAGE too
Think about it. There are so many viable fights using Holy Nova to heal and damage, ICC, ToC, hell, all raids and dungeons
And please don't forget Shadow Word:Death
It's totally viable for a Disco and why not have a Holy try it out too
I'm using it as a pvp trinket as Disco. AMAZING!
When I raid I use Lunar and Muradin together...CAN WE SAY OP!
Thinking outside of the square my friends

As a bisexual, I find this comment incredibly funny.

Even if you don't have this trinket or a similar one this is a nice tip. Provided I'm not bubbled at the time I often use SW:D to get PoM bouncing if it lands on me, particularly handy if it's still on CD and though it isn't a large amount of damage every little helps after all! Not that I'm suggesting that you should go stand in the crap on the ground every time you get PoM or anything, its a nice strat, esp for heroics but works in raids too I find.
On-topic: If you think you can manage your DoTs sucessfully and keep your primary targets alive without needing the mana from other trinkets then by all means go for it. Working out different combos and thinking outside the box is part of the fun (imho) of this game. After all:
Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.
