Hey guys,
I had thought that Portals could only be opened to major cities. Orgrimmar, Undercity, Thunder Bluff... or, if you're Alliance, Ironforge, Stormwind, Darnassus and the like?
However, I had a Mage portal me out of the Sunken Temple, and into Stonard, the other night. How did they do that?

Originally, that's how it was. Mage's could only create portals or teleport themselves to their Faction's major cities, as well as the neutral Sanctuaries that became available in TBC and WotLK (Shattrath City and Dalaran).
However, because the Horde had no city in southern Eastern Kingdoms, and the Alliance had none in southern Kalimdor, they added an additional teleport/portal location for both parties, allowing them to have a quicker way to reaching these locations, without having to spend a lot of time using the zeppelins and flight paths.
These locations where
Stonard
/
Stonard
for the Horde and
Theramore
/
Theramore
for the Alliance.

G'deal. Thanks for the info. It makes sense now.
I kinda would have thought they'd provide teleport trainers in Gadgetzan and Booty Bay... both, neutral locations. But this works.
I envy you mages this ability. I kind of wish that Warlock summoning didn't require two other people to set up.
