There's
a thread in the general forum
, where people are arguing Warlocks are one of the easier classes to play in the game.

So as not to create an additional thread, I did want to share some information which I found out about in a WoW podcast.
Apparently, we Warlocks are the least common class of all in the game. (
Link!
) The methodology was to take a snapshot of all characters at level 80 in the game, and break down who was what class, and which spec was currently active. Paladins top the charts at 15.7%, while Warlocks are sitting at the bottom, with 7.4%.
Kinda makes me a teensy bit more proud, for having chosen a Warlock!
(And some say we're the easiest.
Riiiiiiiight

Well, and I'd be inclined to agree... but these podcasters are reporting we were still relatively scarce in pre-WotLK days too.
And dude, melting feces... after once living in Nebraska for several years, that has a special, sharper (OMFG FLASHBACKS!) grossness factor for myself. ;-)

well, in tBC
we
were the faceroll raiders par excellence!
we weren't hit hard with any nerf bats we were just radically changed in ways that made playing a warlock more interesting and more complicated. the top spec also moved from the shadowbolt spam destro to the increasingly complicated (at that point) affliction. so with the release of WotLK they made all lock specs more interesting and the top spec moved from destro to affliction.
we had picked up a lot of extra players towards the end of tBC because raids were taking large numbers of shadow damage users (along with their resto shaman for every group :P) and locks were easy. they all jumped ship, as duv says, mostly to DKs.
pallies have always been popular in theory but never in practice since they could only heal in vanilla and heal or tank (kinda) in tBC. with wrath they could also DPS (VERY well) and their tanking was put right on par with warriors.
i think my point is that the reasons behind all this stuff is complicated and the more people look for quick snippets of information in it, the less they're looking at the big picture and the less useful the information becomes.
i've played warlocks since vanilla and i can honestly say (as objectively as i can) that warlocks have never been more fun or more perfectly balanced in terms of their own specs and balanced with the other classes.
