Rule of thumb for hardmodes: If you have to ask, you aren't ready.

Being poor ingame is actually very easy to fix, but it requires you to take about 10 minutes to sit down at the AH and look at your inventory of sellable stuff.
Think:
All of those undisenchanted greens are worth 7g - 18g.
You could level mining, and take advantage of the higher priced midlevel ores. Also, check the price of bars before you post. Convert a few for a bit of clean profit.
Finish off a few zones worth of quests. You can pretty easily get about 1000g worth of greens and quest rewards out of a single zone.
There are a few farming spots, including Wintergrasp and a few caves in the Storm Peaks, which can grab you about 10-20 eternals after an hour. Depending on what you're farming, that can be a good chunk of gold.
What did you spend your money on instead? If you're going to gem/enchant a piece of gear, or train a profession, at least do it right. At least then you have more margin for error when you're actually playing. I wouldn't invite you to a raid. Unenchanted gear usually means you don't care. If you don't care, then I don't care. :[

Capable yes, but recommended generally not. It is far more important to know the fights in and out than it is to be "geared enough".

You are capable of doing ToGc10 in ToC 10 gear.
This is true otherwise 10man strict guilds could never do it.
As for being poor, I still find it amusing that people claim to be poor. No offence but I've never come across a case where someone actually could not afford gems or enchants, gems can be gotten without you spending gold (10k honour will get you an uncut epic, easily gotten from doing WG once a week and from turning in 30 Stone Keeper Shards for 2k honour a piece.) and as for enchants, it should be easy enough to farm most of the mats by simply doing random heroics provided there is an enchanter in the group. The rest can be bought.
You're levelling a great moneymaker right there (mining) and BS can make a nice bit of cash too under the right circumstances. Heres two links to get you started.
Money Via BS
Money Via Mining
.
I found these forums to be very good for learning useful tips. Once your gear is sorted then you can sort any other issues (like getting more playtime so you can actually raid :P)

Forgive me for being naive, but I thought that the idea of 10/25 man normal/heroic modes was that 10 and 25 man guilds each had avenues of progression that did not require leaving five members out or finding 15 extras. I understand the point of view that an ICC geared player is probably going to be a lot more useful than a ToC 10 geared one, but I thought the content was designed so that ToC 10 gear was ideal for starting ToGC 10 progression.

That's how it's supposed to be, but in practice 10m hard modes are significantly more difficult for 10m normal geared players than 25m hard modes are at the appropriate gear level. To the point where, unless you're going 10m strict you really wouldn't want to shoot yourself in the foot by taking ToC10 normal geared players to ToGC10 if you could avoid it.
What? No. You're wrong. So very completely wrong. Normally the people who weren't firedancing idiots find places in decent guilds that don't carry firedancing idiots and are competent enough to finish ToGC 10. Sometimes they went on to ToGC 25 just because it was a logical step. Firedancing idiots, however, are still stuck on Anub in ToC 25. So yeah, of course the people doing ToGC 10 successfully weren't firedancing idiots, and probably had a better balance of gear than the firedancing idiots.
The enrage timers are tuned to 232 gear, but it's the fact any drooling dimwit can get 232 gear in every slot but still have no idea how to get the DPS out of their character.
During the third week of ToGC 10 being available, our 10 man roster still had Ulduar 10 gear that wasn't replaced, mixed with maybe 2 pieces of 245, and still Ulduar 25 226. We stomped through the place. 49 wipes remaining on Anub. That last fight had a learning curve, but it was totally possible in the gear you're saying was useless in the content.
232 gear is perfectly suited for ToGC 10. It's meant for that content. Overgearing a place just makes it easier to brute-force it, so firedancing idiots can get their purples on top of their purples.
yo dawg we heared u like purps. so we put purps in ur fire so u get purps on while you diaf.

I believe the equation you all are looking for is as follows
Content = Skill + Gear of content
If you have more skill you can use less of the current content gear. If you have less skill you can balance it out with more gear.
Didn't some guild down yogg 10 or 25 man in all blues?
Cheers,
Hat

run heroics man!
you can trade in 20
Emblems
for epic solid gems. (blue yellow red)
or you canb trade in 10 for the mixed epics (green orange purple)
Just convert your Triumph down to the heroism ones.
Completely re-gemming your gear with the mixed gems would only take around 100 badges.
Go grind heroics for a weekend and tada! you have all the stuff you will need. Plus from all that grinding you are practically assured to get mats for quite a few of them enchants that you DESPERATELY NEED.
There is NO excuse for unenchanted purples... even if you dont get
the best enchant
... get
a cheap one
..
Edit:
Here
is what happens when you just add in the CHEAP enchants.
You rocket to 4139 ap (from 3849 ap) you gain a bit of crit haste and spell power too boot.
That is like having another item slot.
And all that would take is a few dust and some essences.
(also look at the talents... i fixed em for ya)
