Can anyone tell me which should be fastest? I can generally find a group in around 2-5 minutes as a healer. I havent done quests for a while so does anyone know how the two compare?
The 16550 extra xp for competing the dungeon which i'd guess is perhaps on par with completing a quest or a bit under.
Thanks

It all comes down to what your preferences are for how you wish to level the character. I find it easier to quest since the LFG system requires downtime when your looking for a group. That's time lost.

It's not time lost if you spend the time looking for a group doing quests. Questing is probably faster, since the per-mob experience is going to be roughly comparable, but you get ~20k for completing a quest and you can complete quite a lot of quests in the time it takes a really good group to get through a dungeon.

Questing would probably be faster, but you could do only dungeons then do all the quests at 80 to get alot more money than you would normally. Or you could just do a mixture - que for dungeon while doing quests.

The new LFD system is a boon for leveling. Join looking for a random and continue questing while you wait - the best of both worlds. When i was in the early 70's, a single dungeon run (taking less than 30 min) netted me 200-300k xp. This was much faster than i personally could achieve questing.

I am levelling my alt priest (70 now) and I find questing to be slightly slower than doing instances.

Within the last month, I've gotten two toons (
priest
and
warrior
) to 80. First was the warrior which was about 2 or 3 weeks ago, and the priest was about 4 days ago.
I have to say that questing, especially if you have a character that can solo well, is much more efficient than dungeoning if all you care about is getting to 80. There's a few other considerations too.. such as gear curve. For some classes this may not matter much, but it was nice having my warrior crit immune for heroics basically the night she hit 80 (which was the night I got my Blades of the Sable Cross & Seal of the Pantheon). Of course, people still gawked at the fact I was trying to do heroic nexus with less than 30k hp, but I digress. ;)
Personally, if you can afford it, dual talent spec works wonders for leveling. My priest, for example, was specced disc in dungeons, but when dungeons were not popping.. I was almost afraid to attempt anything but healing as that spec. I eventually got enough money to get dual talent spec and went shadow for the second spec. I think I did that around 74-75.. I hit 80 a couple days after that.
I didn't exactly have a "system" for deciding whether I would quest or do dungeons on Slashoom, but considering I was 79 by the time I was in Sholazar Basin probably sped things up a bit.
TLDR; for those who are leveling classes that can tank or heal.. and want to tank or heal.. questing is still a bit more efficient. If you're queuing as DPS, no duh questing is leaps and bounds more efficient.

dont know if this thread is still valid but heres my 2c. My holy priest went from 73 to 78 using lfd. around 75 the xp gains started to really drop off. Vh was bad xp but I always seemed to get it first. HoS usually came next and was a lot better. It really depends on what instance you get in relationship to your level.

From my experiance, doing quests while signed for Dungeon is the best way to level if you're dps.
My Shaman had Resto/Ele dualspecc while I leveled, so questing was no problem and queue time was not to shabby as Resto.
If you can aford dualspecc, I would highly recommend it, if not. Go questing while signed and doing the dungeon when you can.
