Another use may be to finally allow holy dps. The priest will be spamming Holy Nova and will be using Life Grip to pull melee out of range and to interrupt spellcasting of ranged dps.

And on the other hand, why should only Shadowpriests have to take the penalty when they already lost Abolishing Disease in Shadowform, and Misery?
This makes me laugh every time I see it because it wasn't till WotLK that we could use Abolish Disease in Shadow Form and now they're like, "well I guess it's time to take that away", I wonder if we will get it back in 5.0 :P

Dropping form to heal because some other healer failed (bad rng, it CAN happen!) should be the first reaction to ANY shadowpriest. Sinespe gave you a perfect example where a wipe would have happened if he didn't drop form to help heal, Kiyomii. Other classes have other cooldowns to help SAVE others too. Does that mean as a DPS, they should never use them? No. You use all the tools in your arsenal when the time arises to use them. That means stopping DPS to heal at times when you know a wipe would happen if you didn't.

The curious exception to this rule may be Holy priests which, apparently, will be able to dispel offensive magic, defensive magic, diseases, and poison-on-self via Body and Soul (this isn't that big a deal since the GCD cost to dispel poison is at least 2) thus allowing themselves to dispel more types of things than any other healer.
While this is technically true, BnS self-poison cleanse is marginal compared to a paladin's bubble. TECHNICALLY, they dispel ALL debuffs on them when they bubble, so they can "dispel" more types of debuffs than any other healer. If we're going there that is.

I think they should be simplying talents a lot in cataclysm, get rid of all the marginal talents that have accreted over the past few years - not add more.
They are redoing the talent trees completely, Leap of Faith, Mind Spike are new skills not talents, and guess what they are simplifying them by making it where you can choose more of the talents you want and worry less about X talent increasing healing/damage/hp/threat by X amount cause those are built into the trees now.
