Help with Trinkets (Arcane)

I'm trying to help an arcane mage friend of mine get as geared as possible without having to rely on raid drops. (Of course, I'm sure the week after I get him all set, he'll somehow win Reign of the Dead and Muradin's Spyglass.) I think I understand the general principles and know what to do with most of his gear, but I'm a little stuck on which trinkets he should use.

He's currently got the following:

Sundial of the Exiled
Nevermelting Ice Crystal
Talisman of Resurgence
Talisman of Volatile Power

We could also farm reg ToC for Abyssal Rune. Or any other regular/heroic instance for a trinket.

I think the best pair is Talisman of Resurgence and Abyssal Rune, at least that's the general sense I get from reading up a bit, but I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something.

(Also, I know several other forums have a list that ranks Trinkets from best to worst for the class/spec in question. Is there one of these floating around somewhere for mages that I just can't find?)

You're right, Resurgence is generally considered BiS until ICC hard modes, and Abyssal's haste is boss, those two are his best options right now. Volatile Power is extremely suboptimal because it's on-use effect requires ramping up and only lasts 20 seconds. Nevermelting is acceptable for the SP, but Sundial / Abyssal will be better in the long run.

I heartily recommend farming up the Abyssal, if you have bad luck getting Muradins it'll last for a while. And don't forget to tell him to macro the talisman, Arcane Power and Icy Veins together for burst phases.

there's a few others I wonder about but haven't seen a ranking list recently. If there is one and I missed it please link.
150 SP pvp
200 SP dragon soul
158/178 sp (plus mana) sliver
179 sp (plus mana) dust

The Dragon Soul and Sliver are both raid drops, so they would not be available to him under his set requirements.

Wasting 60 Emblems of Frost on the Purified Lunar Dust is just crazy. Emblems of Frost should be spend on Tier pieces, and even than that trinket is pretty bad for a Mage.

The PVP one is a pretty poor pick as well, and shouldn't be bothered with.

Stick with the Talisman of Resurgence and farm for the Abyssal Rune until you get any of the trinkets Malentra mentioned.

I'm gonna piggy back on this with a very similar question.

I'm currently using the Abyssal Rune and the Figurine - Twilight Serpent (JC trinket) with double runed dragons eyes in it.

I picked up the Nevermelting Ice Crystal last night and should be able to purchase the Talisman of Resurgence in the next day or two.

Is it time to cash in the JC trinket for something else? It's really hard to give up a trinket slot with 2 sockets but maybe its time? This won't be a raiding character, so my options are somewhat limited. Thanks!
