Do you ever get mad at people for copying your name?

I don't want to compare this with real life, but i give it a go anyway.
In real life there are tons of people named, for example: John or Peter or Mike and so on.
The last name usually sets them apart from all the other Johns out there, but even last names are sometimes very similar to your own and you might not even know the person at all.
In WoW we don't have first / last names and just one name.
To be original is sometimes very difficult. more and more names are already taken.
And at times when I created an alt character I had to think really hard and even then I sometimes came up with a name that already exists.
Eventually your name will be thought up by someone who decides "now I am going to think of something nobody has ever thought of" and by accident thinks of something you have come up with earlier.
If it is a name with a slight variation to your name, well that still could be coincidence and the other person might think of YOU who stole HIS/HERS idea instead of the other way around.
That you came up with the name earlier doesn't mean that it might have the right to be more original.
That persons have the same name as you do, well its really hard to figure out who is the real original. Maybe someone has thought up a name or has a name that has a 'special' meaning way before you were born. I mean there are people playing who are 12 years of age, but I do know of someone who is 50 and still plays WoW.
I don't mean to be judgemental or anything, but who's to say that YOU are original ?
Its very hard to prove and the other person might think of you and says "hey, I've always used this name (in other games or forums) and now its already taken... *grumble*"
I hope I make sense, but of course I wish that everyone could use his name (fantasy or real or combinations or names with special meanings).
But, forgive me, I have a problem with names that have special meanings.
If someone thought up a name that has a special meaning and coincidentally has the same length and letters in it as your special meaning name. who's to say who's original ?
To have name that is fully original and fully unique, well that basically means a copyright on your name.
Imagine if everybody in the real world must have a completely unique name, and a name that is likely NOT to be thought of, or invented, ever again to boot ! almost impossible I'd say.

Hahah... I'm original too, and I'm pretty happy when I saw that I was the only Mondryl on the armory. :)
I do congratulate anyone who has and thought of a nice and original name, don't get me wrong.
But eventually someone might think up Mondryl even if he has never seen the name before.
Or people might be influenced by movies or literature or other books, not that they on purpose or with full conscience think of a particular name and outright copy it, but more like subconscience thoughts or references to a name that has been seen or heard earlier.
Also combinations of real life names and fantasy names or object names might coincidentally be the same as what you have come up with.
Example: Mondryl.
you could divide up Mondryl in two words. "Mon" and "dry".
someone might think: "Hey, today its Monday lets use the first three letters from this".
"cool, something that starts with Mon.. I like that but it sounds a bit too much like troll race"
"lets add something behind it.. monza ehmm.. monzir.. monjev. nahh... mondry... hmmm mondry sounds nice, but is too dry, maybe if I add a letter behind it"
"Mondryz.. nahhh.. mondryp.. nope.. too drippy.... I got it ! Mondryl !"
Ok, this is far fetched, but something like this might happen to come up with your name Mondryl. Even if the person never before has seen or heard Mondryl.
It was just an example how someone might think to come up with Mondryl.
Not that it happens in such a way, but it could.
Also in real life people follow 'trends'. to use names or things, clothes, styles, lifestyles that are popular.... or on purpose not follow a trend and do the complete opposite of what they think is popular but inadvertently do or choose something that other people might do too.
Anyway, I'm just saying, there's more to it then just copying someone's name unless it is intentional and on purpose to use another persons name for whatever reason.
Pffff.. i don't understand myself anymore... hehehe.

There was one guy who got mad at me (and wanted me to buy name change o_O) because we had similiar nicks (my mage was Freezie before I transfered, he was Freezelol or something like that), and there's obviously no way that anyone would create a mage with nick related to freezing, right? The best part about it was that I later found out that he created his character later than me.

NeoBlackheart
I as you can tell from my username love Neoblackheart I came up with it at the age of 7 I am now 22. I came up with it Not after watching the movie the matrix like so many people say which now ROYALY pisses me off. I got it from modifing Neo Bahamut from FFVII. I checked when I first started wow No Nblackheart or NeoBlack in all of existantance. Made my first hunter and over the years neoblack has been taken by 2 others and nblackheart is only my newbie mage. You won't find it anywere other than as an aliase of mine on any site. So yeah if someone takes it I get offended because its my name I chose it to be unique not be copied.

I don't mind people copying my char name as long as it ain't obvious and they use the same set as me with same class and race.

Ahrendel
I was the only Ahrendel on my server. And then I started seeing variations of it. Aeryndel. Ahrendul. Ahryndel.
More often than not though I'd just make fun with them.

Unless you copyrighted it, you don't own the name.
My main is still the only one on the US servers with his name. AFAIK there is only one in the EU as well, and it's highly unlikely that we've ever interacted. Every other name I've used is likely to be seen because I yanked it from googleing various things. So, naturally, I blame Google for working for people who aren't me. Bad Google! Bad!
Edit: This is not meant to be insulting.. I'm not a writer. Obviously.

I was pleasantly surprised when I discovered a while ago that my current main was the only character with that name, Cardamos, on the EU servers, apart from a low level guy I have on another server. Not that it matters especially, but it is nice to see sometimes :)

Back in the TBC days I created a hunter that I was going to try to twink out at level 19. Her name was/is Sheeturself. All of her pet's names "jived" with her name, i.e. - GonnaMakeU, DidYouJust, HaHaYou and so on. The twinking experiment failed (because I totally fail at PvP...hahaha) and she became just another toon I leveled. I still have her and her pet's names have shifted a bit to be more goofy, i.e. - purple spider named PrunesMakeU, skeleton bird named DeathMksU. About a month ago I armoried her to check something out while I was at work, only to find another toon with the exact name...spelling and all. It kinda upset me. Not so much the fact that it was copied (ok...yea it upset me that it was copied...lol), but for the fact that it's a rogue. I mean, in my eyes, the name is just better (no to mention funnier) for a hunter because of being able to make your pet's names go with it.

I had the only Danceswfleas for ages. I'm not sure when the other two appeared but it slightly miffed me. Still, I've got the only Miserablegit in existence and I'm happy about that, ironically!
