I still find it hard to believe that Heart of the Wild is going to stay as a first tier talent that gives 12% extra intellect. It's just too overpowered for Resto/Balance characters.
My thoughts exactly.
As for 'Natural Shapeshifter / Master Shapeshifter':
Cat and Bear Form have already been reduced to only 5% base mana, so NSS becomes much less useful. And since MSS has been reduced to 1 point, spending 4 points (incl. NSS) for 2% crit / dmg seems way too expansive.

There's too much balance talents outside of the balance tree right now, just like there is on live. Actually it's worse in this cata version, as there's no viable balance talents in the feral tree on live, but now we have 12% intellect squirreled away there, ugh. And 9 DPS-related points in early resto, nearly 25% of the full total... Oye vey!
Why do they DO this? :¨(
Also, Nature's Grace is still in the tree, despite it has a (To Be Removed) tag, and it's been that way since alpha. I can't help wondering why they don't just kill it and be done with it.
Maybe it's not going away after all, but just awaiting a redesign... With the awesomely named Lunar Justice being removed (which makes me sad!), there's suddenly not much in the way of optional talents to choose from in the balance tree; most of that's been doled out to resto, and now feral... :/
There's moonkin frenzy and wrath of cenarius that could be seen as mostly PvP talents, and fungal growth of course, but we gotta pick one of these three or else there's not enough points in the tree to reach starfall. Fungal growth at least has some semi-valid PvE applications (to snare adds and such with); at least more valid than the other two. If Nature's Grace was to make a comeback in some form it would make it more attractive to spend our points in our main tree rather than the other two...
I was OK with basically having 5 points spread out into Resto; Furor and Blessing of the Grove, but now putting Master Shapeshifter there means we "must" pick Natural Shapeshifter first - which really is a PvP talent - in order to reach the PvE talent. That's another 3 points, or dropping something else from resto.
It'd make more sense to move most of the balance-related points from resto and feral trees to the balance tree. What possible use would bears and kitties have for 12% additional intellect anyway? With zero intellect on feral leather, 12% extra of almost nothing is still almost nothing. It's just to screw with us owls and make our lives miserable that Blizzard does this.

Go roll an Ele Shaman, then you'll feel the deep, deep reach of Blizz's love !
What precisely ails ele shamans? :) IME, they do very good DPS, and they've got crazy wicked burst for PvP, totem utility, and seem generally pretty well-rounded.
I was specced ele briefly on my shaman while "badging up" my resto spec (since they can share the same gear) and it was pretty fun, and grinding was fast and effortless. Everything died with a shock + lava burst, pretty much. However, I switched back to enhance once I got some decent melee gear as well, as I don't have any other melee character, and feral puppies are sooo fun and stuff. :)
I agree that the 12% Int would be better placed elsewhere. I would say in Natural Shapeshifter to make it more attractive in PVE.
Yeah, it belongs there more than it does in the feral tree. However since there's an Int talent already in resto I would like to move it somewhere to balance instead. ;) Tag master shapeshifter onto Furor instead, as that talent already has different effects for different forms. They match each other well.
How often, assuming debuff-curing is taken care of by others, how often do you form-shift in combat ?
As a feral I really couldn't say, as I never play that spec. :) However hasn't Blizz nerfed formshifting mana cost a lot already, even without this talent? I just don't see the need for picking three points of this crappy talent to reach the 2% spell damage for owls, especially when most of the form shifting owls do when PvEing is to go into moonkin form and then stay there... :/

They don't scale, at all. And try finding suitable Ele weapons in most raiding enviroments
How can they not scale at all? 0_o If your spell damage goes up, your DPS goes up, just like with every other caster... As for weapons, well, try finding a priest or tree healing weapon in a non-raiding instance. There ISN'T A SINGLE ONE with ilvl above 200 with spirit on it in any of the four highest-level heroic dungeons.
Best one can hope for is a mace or dagger with MP5 on it - such as the battered hilt quest reward - which will then autotransform into spirit once cataclysm strikes, but that's it.
...So nobody's perfectly happy it seems. :D Btw, isn't there a single crit spelldagger you could use in all of icecrown citadel? Strange...
We also got jacked in terms of "new goodies" for the expansion.
Hey, you get Earthquake! What's there not to like about that one, 20% chance of knockdown every second, and it's not even channeled... Also, don't you get that meteor thingy also...? Or is that a mage spell perhasp? Maybe warlock, I can't remember. Can't find it. Hm, I'm sure Blizz said some class would be able to call down a meteor, maybe they cut it. Or it's not in the game yet. Oh well.
More than NS anyway since it's one of those "weak and boring" talents they said they'd cull.
Oh yeah, definitely... Weak: check. Boring: CHECK. :D
On the whole, Moonkin still looks like a lot of fun though, even if the talent tree feels confused with so much balance stuff spread out. The new eclipse mechanic looks like win to me - I never bothered to take that talent since I don't raid, and when I run dungeons I switch to healer spec instead. So I never get to see one of the awesomestest procs in the game unless there's a laserchicken in the group also, and they're not very common unfortunately. :( Thus it's going to be great when this talent becomes a core mechanic of the druid class.
Also, Shrooms, Starsurge and Solar Beam all look as sweet as can be. I can't wait to try planting 5 Shrooms at a battleground flag and Prowling and wait for the first enemy that comes along, then blow him up, pop treants and start unloading...!

In the latest talent tree, Master Shapeshifter no longer requires 3 points in Natural Shapeshifter. Now its just 2 points for more damage/healing, and thus a lot more appealing.

Seems like it works only if you have ALL the items of the right type. At first I though it might be bonus per item, but I guess not. Now that 1 item of higher Ilevel and wrong type is really gonna be less appealing. 5% is a lot at that gear level.
I was assuming that this was something different from the per-item
mastery
bonus we were going to get from wearing the right armor type.

I am really liking how the trees are coming together. Still need:
Nature's Grace to be redesigned (if they still intend to).
Some talents need to have slight adjustments to the numbers at each stage themselves.
But the talent trees have a good flow and set of choices for the boomkin now.

Things are still really
sucky
dull for ex-trees.

Are you still ticked off trees don't get another healing spell? If so, I really don't know what kind of spell that would be. We kind of have everything already, so it would only be a variation of some existing spell...
What I don't get is why Blizzard's messing with the cast times, pushing regrowth into the natural role nourish has had until now. That totally does not make sense, at all.
Blowtorch:
Thanks for the news regarding Master Shapeshifter. That's excellent news to hear for moonkin!

That totally does not make sense, at all.I've gotten into the bad habit of using Regrowth to top off people. Not entirely sure why I've started doing that (I mean I even glyph Nourish in 10s).

You're welcome. This is good news for trees too (though trees don't really have the points to spare).

Interesting to see HotW in there for 12% intell now that there is no intell > sp conversion.
Where did they say no more conversion? I haven't heard anything to that effect, and it's still listed on Wowhead's stats page for Cata.
Lunar Guidance
has changed.
Intel = SP in Cata still :P
We just don't get a boost from the Boomkin talent tree itself anymore.
Les I see your build as the utility build and
this build
as the pure dps build. 3% to dots is going to be a larger boost to dps in the next xpac.
