I understand what the OP is saying. Your rep doesnt matter in LFD since you probably wont ever seem the random other people again.
I like LFD and I dont like it.

Instances ruined MMO community many many many years before LFD did, or even before WoW was retail.
In my opinion, instances were one of the worst things to happen to the mmorpg genre. They are without a doubt the worst thing to ever happen to true mmo pvp.
Those games like guild wars that are 95% instanced..i cant even look at them never mind play them.

Uh...what? WoW has never been PvP based. If you are arguing about a PvP-centic MMO, I can see your point, but you're not. You're talking about WoW.
The Vanilla Honor System wasn't added until 1.4, half a year after launch.
Battlegrounds weren't added until 1.5, nearly a year after launch.
Arenas weren't added until Jan '07, over two years after launch.

Doesn't matter. Instances ruin community, if my post came off sounding pvp-centric that's because instances also ruin pvp...in a large way. But that doesn't exclude instances ruining the community feel of a mmo, whether its pvp or pve instances.
Back in UO, or DAOC, or Neocron I would run into people all the time, friends and enemies alike, which would result in either pvp or social interaction, or sometimes both. That basically NEVER happens in wow, because the average player is standing in dal waiting to join a group and fly into a portal.

. . .
I am still failing to see how instances themselves did this. Pre-LFD, you either ran them with people you knew or random people, possibly even adding them to the "people you know" list. Post-LFD, yeah, all you do is stand around in Dal waiting for a queue to proc. The majority of guilds, which are communities within the server community, are created with the intent to do instances, namely raids. Therefore, without instances, there would actually be less community because fewer guilds would exist, and fewer people would play the game.
Also this is why your post came off PvP-centric:
They are without a doubt the worst thing to ever happen to true mmo pvp.

Personally I've not had many problems with people in LFD groups. If someone is being an ass I just ignore them and go about performing the best that I can perform. If we wipe, I know I've tried my best.
The player will go on my ignore list and that will be the end of that player.

Instances are what saved the MMORPG as far as I'm concerned. There are just to many things that can go wrong with outdoor objectives that are of high importance to high numbers of players. The opportunities for griefing are pretty much endless, and even if you somehow manage to find several groups of players who aren't asshats, your now stuck standing in line with your group waiting 10-60 minutes for said objective boss to respawn while you watch the next group in line fight. You may as well be sitting around with your thumb up your bum for all your accomplishing.
Now, in a PvP game? Yes, I can see instances being obnoxious. But in WoW? Instances is one of the reasons this game works. Can you imagine the griefing or lines you would have to wait in to fight the Lich King?
To stay on topic with the OP...
Yes, I think LFD has caused some serious damage to the overall community of the game. However, I also think it has opened more players up to instancing/raiding. Take the good with the bad.

If you want to see why instance-free PvE is bad, look no further than FFXI.
Or you could look at EverQuest, where it was common practice for guilds to block progression for competitors by denying them chances to raid appropriate bosses. Imagine being unable to progress on 2 year old content because the top-end guilds are still killing the raids to deny you the chance.
IMHO, the worst killer of sociality in WoW is the fast pace of the combat system. With most abilities refreshing in less then 2 seconds, it's very hard to type something inbetween; so if you are typing you are not playing optimally.
I've just levelled up a new alt, and I must say that LFD on lower levels is really a blesing; i wouldn't have done much dungeons without it. I've met a fair share of idiots while doing it though, but that's to be expected in a MMO. I think the nail was hit squarely on the head earlier; the main problem is the emblem/badge system that makes running heroics like a second job.
