Enough with all the paper-thin analogies, they're not good arguments and they make you look stupid. We're not talking about blue dresses, we're not talking about Copernicus, we're not talking about communism - we're talking about the simple topic of x spec being better than y spec for z.
Combat is more effective than subtlety for levelling in both theory and in practice. Continue to challenge this if you will, you're still wrong.

This thread is ridiculous, Wildhorn has simply been trolling for the sake of it in my opinion since he has not backed up a single one of his assertions with any evidence whereas a huge wealth of evidence exists to assert that combat is the superior spec for sustained damage. If you want to see numbers I suggest going to elitistjerks.
As I said earlier, spreading misinformation about the class does nothing but damage the game experience of players who come to these forums for advice on how to maximise the potential of their characters.
The people claiming to have downed 4 AV guards in 10 seconds, you are lieing/exagerating. 10 seconds is 100 energy regeneration giving you a total of 200 energy to use within this period from a full energy bar at the start. That is not sufficient to kill 4 AV guards. :)
Why lie in a thread started by someone asking for advice on how best to level?

1) Your name is damn too long
2) Sub, tried combat, and found it was not going enough fast for me.
@Duracell
1) Find a better avatar for your name
2) Questing and lvling up has nothing to do with sustained damage.
3) I said I got to lvl 70 in less than 10 days /played while everybody who scream combat is faster said they have over 17, if not more, days /played
4) I hate when people say "Just go to elitistjerks". Even if I know they are a very good raid guild, people take for cash w/e they say. The day they will say humans are able to breath under water if they put a cucumber in their ass, we gonna get a huge report of dead people who did it.
5) Can we drop the damn 4 AV guards discussion? This has nothing to do with the topic.

Something tells me you don't exactly know what the EJ website is.

...
That is exactly what questing and levelling is, whether it be measured in the manner in which a mob is taken down or the amount of downtime you have to take during a levelling session.
Burst is for PvP, sustained damage for PvE. Those people claiming to one shot mobs are simply not telling the entire picture for whatever reason (is there some sort of glory in levelling with a poor spec?)
How do a couple of aphids as an avatar relate to your name?

Between each mob there is a downtime where you restealth, use another opener, etc. That is not sustained.
Wildhorn (1 of my characters) is a moonkin, icon is insect swarm (moonkin spell).
You should use this icon

(which is a battery)

1. Yeah my name might be too long. For the sake of simplicity though i try to keep the same username/email address for all the sites i join.
2. Until what level did you play combat, and when did you make your switch to sub?
1) Dont put ur reply into the quote :P
2) You should not use same name/password for all your stuff. It might be easier, but if you register on a website that sell their userlist, GG you got all your stuff hacked (their is a huge market for this)
3) From lvl 10 to 70 as sub, I deleted my combat rogue (that I got up to lvl 48) because I didnt like to be a UD and the server I was on was pretty dead player-wise.

Sustained damage is the amount of damage you can throw out over a given period of time. It is often measured in terms of DPS.
Burst damage occurs when a high amount of damage is delivered instantaneously.
Both these forms of damage occur during every fight. When it comes to any facet of PVE, whether it be grinding mob after mob or fighting a raid boss, sustained damage is far more important.
Combat is far ahead of subtlety in terms of sustained damage, and actually isn't far behind in burst potential when compared with non-dagger subtlety builds. Discounting DShS builds, assassination is the exemplary burst tree.

I consider sustained damage to be damage done on 1 encounter/pull (so while questing, usualy it is 1 mob)
Post by
Remx
Well unfortunately that's not what sustained damage actually is.
We're not talking about total damage done - considering each mob has a given amount of health, total damage done won't vary too much, if at all, between specs. We're talking in essence about
DPS
dealt.

How can DPS matter in an environnement where if the mob has 10 hp left, a hit of 10 damage or 1000 damage wont do more or less.
Post by
Remx
So your argument is that the amount of damage you deal each second is irrelevant, because fights last less than a second on average?
Come on now, be serious.

No, it is not what i say... i will explain my point of view more later, now i need to brush my teeth and catch my bus to get to CEGEP (wiki it if you dont know what is it)
