How important is it to modify your unit frame?

Forgive me for having an opinion.
You're forgiven. But that holds no grounds because that's like saying the sky is purple. Sure, your opinion says it's purple, but the fact is that it's blue.
Fair point. But I still don't believe, for a second, addons make you play better. Like the last poster said, they allow it. Bit of a change from my original idea but I've changed my thoughts on reading some other points :)
So, basically. I think addons can help you play better but they don't have to. :D

Contradiction. If I'm using the add-ons, which allow me to play better by your logic, doesn't that make you play better?
If I
allow
you to staple your hand to your face, does that mean you'll do it?
You can own a weedwhacker, but that doesn't mean you'll actually use the damned thing. That's my point. Installing an addon doesn't automatically make you play better, you have to use it.
"
You can lead a horse to water..
"
But you can't make them use their addons
edit: perhaps I need to reread the definition for "allow", maybe that's what makes the statement contradictory.
allow : to permit.
I'm sorry, I assumed we were talking about players who weren't complete idiots.

Is it even possible to do raid heals without some sort of interface addon? For me the default UI doesn't let me select people outside of my group.

Well you can install all addons that can make your job easier, but if you dont configure them right or if you dont now how to use them in the correct way; then addons will make you perform worse.
So no addons dont automatically mean you perform better, but if you use them in the correct way it really is a real permormance boost.
This is an important point. If you're using add-ons that have not been configured, then you're probably taking up screen real estate to display a buttload of redundant information.
Shameless self-plug, but check out my UI linked in my signature. I put a lot of work into polishing it. By no means is it meant to be used on a machine with less than 2GB RAM. For a machine like that, check out RothUI or TukUI.

I cringe when I see people advocating the
need
for certain addons. While they offer support, they are in no way needed to do anything. I use certain addons myself, but only to change the look of my UI, such as the raid frames and buffs/debuffs. I don't feel the need to make the game easier than it already is. And judging by the amount of complaints about the game being too easy, I'd say most should uninstall theirs.
Don't get me wrong, I don't see players as bad because they use addons such as DBM. What I don't like is the general view that everyone needs such addons to even enter a raid. I don't need addons which
adds
functionality to the game, only addons which lets me customize the
existing
functionality.

Some people need addons, some don't. Just because you need them to play effectively, doesn't mean everyone else does too.

Agreed Hyperspacerebel.
Just because you use something doesn't mean everyone else has to to be effective.
I run the usual add ons....but I don't run other things that others do. Its all personal choice.
Way to many elitists here saying if you don't use so and so add on then you're not effective.

You NEED add-ons if you want to play
to your fullest potential.

you

Are you suggesting then that the default UI is flawless in its design?
