I think we were through with the original topic on page two - and IMHO the thread has gotten more and more interesting ever since.

If you think it's too easy play without handicaps. Wait did I say this already? Oh Well. Unless you're playing
without
vent, addons, and have every achievement in the game it's not '
too easy
'. You just want to show off your e-peen more because OMG you have epix! Well I'm sorry you people don't feel that, despite playing with so many handicaps, you aren't being appropriately rewarded for your 'skill' at a video game. Good players will always rise to the top. They will always stand out no matter what class they play or gear they have. If this game is not 'hard' enough for you anymore then GTFO. Blizzard does not need you.

The heart of this topic isn't difficulty... it's about value... how does Blizzard justify a monthly fee to a "bad" player... how? Just because their "bad" it doesn't mean their irrational... even a bad player can understand that paying for only one tier of difficult content they cannot complete is a bad idea. So a middle ground needs to be reached.
That middle ground is hardmodes
... But I would wager all my gold that Cata might start out as a "hard" or "challenging" game but I promise that if the players start walking away from the game because it's too difficult... the content will be re-tuned.. it would be stupid not to.
I'm pretty sure that Blizzard has fully embraced the idea of hardmodes to appeal to one player base and normal modes to another (PvE). Just look at the evolution of hard modes from Ulduar to To(G)C to ICC. I don't think it's unreasonable to assume that Cataclysm will follow this model.
This brings us back to the line, "if you think PvE is too easy, go do some hardmodes." And while you're at it, try it with 0 addons.

I'm not a big fan of the zero addons argument. Blizzard's UI is in need of improvement and somethings are difficult or even impossible without addons. In a raid setting for example, I need to be able to see more portraits than just my party so I know who to taunt if I lose aggro to someone. Or I need something that'll keep track of all the buffs I put on someone so I know where Prayer of Mending has jumped or how long my HoTs or DoTs have left on their timers. The default UI is counter intuitive for all of these raid functions. Is it possible to do these things without addons? Perhaps, but is it efficient? Not at all.
I dunno, I raided (and healed) Uld10/Uld25 with no other add-on than DBM (and Vent but that's an out-of-game program and not an add-on) and was not doing worse nor better than the other healers in my raid (well, I was doing "worse" than my Paladin counterpart, but the difference in gear definitely helped for that one). The thing is, since the UI is customizable to a degree out of the box, I just got rid of party frames (an option that's already in-game) and then customized it to a degree that I felt comfortable healing.
So yes, it is feasible healing without add-ons. People don't want to do it because either their class requires switching between a ton of abilities or because they like the way the healing game plays with said add-ons.
However, I had fun healing without Grid/Healbot and would gladly do so again.

I agree that addons help make Blizzard's UI more efficient, and help many max their dps potential (huge fan of shockandawe). But you have to admit, DeadlyBossMods does an awful lot of hand holding these days. For crying out loud when someone in your raid has something bad, like Shadow Trap on H-LK, DBM gives you an arrow telling you where to move from. Thing is, some people (not everybody) dismiss many things that they do/use that contribute to WoW PvE being less than overwhelming for them (vent communication, DBM, omen threat meter, dps addons, video guides like from Tankspot, forums/databases like Wowhead).
I don't think people who play the most difficult content will complain that it's too easy. If top players don't think top content is too easy, why would other players complain about easier content?

That if the game is "too easy" it is usually through the player's own actions and not Blizzard's.
And likewise, a competent raider can beat an incompetent one - mods or no mods, although skillful use of mods is part of skill itself
. That said, the only players I've ever seen make these "no-mod" arguments are simply not good players themselves looking to make excuses about how easy the game they fail at supposedly is.
^ The bolded part is absolutely true, but you can't deny that addons help
anyone
a great deal through boss encounters.
